Even in my favorite season (which is Fall) I’ve never fancied myself someone who wears purple eyeshadow. The Natasha Denona Lila Palette changed me and the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Eye Shadow Palette has turned me into a true and loyal purple toned shadow fan for life.
what is it
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Eyeshadow Palette is said to be “Norvina’s go-to eyeshadow palette featuring 14 whimsical shades ranging from bold and bright mattes to soft pastel shimmers”.
Benefits & features listed are a “full pigment and easy-to-blend formula, a double-ended brush and luxe packaging with a large mirror”.
review
Though the shades aren’t my usual daily thing I’m here to tell you that the Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Eyeshadow Palette is my favorite of all of the ABH palettes. I’m having no regrets.
The packaging is the same size, shape and material that we’ve come to know with the ABH eye shadow palettes. Instead of a basic black or tan color we have a beautiful periwinkle shade with Norvina embossed on the front in gold and Anastasia Beverly Hills in gold. The material of the palette itself is cardboard and the outer coating is a flat velour.
Inside are the 14 eyeshadow shades, a full-sized, double-ended makeup brush and a mirror.
Dreamer (metallic pink champagne), Base (matte eggshell), Summer (metallic foiled golden topaz), Soul (matte wisteria), Wild Child (duo-chrome frosty pink w/ a magenta shift), Incense (matte dusty terracotta), Rose Gold (metallic rosewood), Love (matte mid-tone cool pink), Celestial (duo-chrome plum w/ a violet shift), Volatile (matte warm charcoal), Dazzling (duo-chrome cool-tone bronze w/ a violet shift), Eccentric (matte dark burnt orange), Drama (duo-chrome aubergine w/ a cool bronze shift), Passion (matte deep garnet)
In terms of quality and performance of these eye shadows I have absolutely no complaints. I talk more about the finishes below but not a single one gave me an issue applying or blending. They each lasted all day long when worn over an eyeshadow primer.
I wouldn’t call all of the listed mattes actual mattes. Soul and Love absolutely have a very fine micro-shimmer to them. It’s more apparent on swatches than on the eye but IMO they’re not true matte shades. However they’re freaking gorgeous regardless of their listed description.
The way I like to work with ABH matte shades is to press them to the lid where I want them (yes, even in the crease) and then use a very soft blending brush with a little more color on it to seamlessly work them into the other colors. If you use a brush that is too rough for the blending you’re going to have a heck of a time (I talk more below on the included brush).
Some of the metallic shades work better than wet but I found that the shades Dreamer, Summer, Rose Gold and Dazzling worked nicely even dry (though using them wet does amp them up a bit more).
I LOVE that they include an actual full-sized brush and the flat shader side is one of my favorite things in all of makeup land. That blender, though.
If you’ve read any of my past Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palette reviews you’ll know this but the bristles of the blender side feel scratchy on the eye, don’t work well and kick up WAY too much powder when you dip it in to a shadow (even if you go lightly). I wish they’d replace it with a softer blender or literally anything else.
All that aside this may be my favorite palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I think I may even like it more than Soft Glam! That periwinkle shade… (aka Soul) … you complete me.
*note – there are some mixed reviews on this palette, and performance doesn’t lie. Mine is definitely one of the good ones but some influencers (ones who I personally trust for reviews) were not pleased with their palette. I’m not sure about batch numbers but theirs were all received in PR. Mine was purchased online from ULTA Beauty so it’s entirely possible a few of them got a bad batch. Please save your receipt when you buy this palette so that you can exchange it out if need be!
