SWATCHED | Smashbox + VladaMUA Petal Metal Eyeshadow Palette & Highlighter

Widely known throughout the makeup community is an artist named Vlada Haggerty (aka @VladaMUA). Vlada has always been known for her skill (allegedly particularly from Kylie #AmIRight 😉 ) and now Smashbox has teamed up with her to launch a rose gold makeup line, complete with everything you need to create that ever-so-famous “lip drip”. When the line launched I scooped up the Smashbox + Vlada Cover Shot Petal Metal Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00) & Prismatic Pearl Petal Metal Highlighter ($39.00) to add to my collection.

what is it

The Smashbox + Vlada Petal Metal Makeup Collection contains a Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette, 3 Highlighters, 3 Be Legendary Liquid Lips, 3 Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick, 2 Liquid Eye Liners, Photo Finish Primer, Shimmer Spray, Shimmer Drops and Swarovski Eye Liner Jewels. All of the products are in limited edition packaging.

Prismatic Pearl Petal Metal Highlighter ($39.00). Three shades of Petal Metal Highlighter have been released in this collection but I only had interest in one of those. Prismatic Pearl is a Sephora exclusive shade and is described as an iridescent rose gold.

That shift. How could you not love that shift? This is the most complex, unique highlighter I’ve ever seen in my life. My favorite way to wear it is on my lids, lightly dabbed at the center using my finger. As an actual highlighter though it’s very glittery, which is not my cup of tea. It’s got a pink highlight to it that stands out but there is a noticeable glitter to it that you can see in my eye look below.

My major complaint about this shade is that the packaging is different from that of Gilded Rose and Rosemantic. The two shades that aren’t exclusive have a beautiful 3D rose print which was, in all honesty, the biggest reason I wanted a highlighter from this launch. I’m disappointed that the Sephora exclusive Prismatic Pearl just had a general picture on the front. Though still beautiful I don’t think it should’ve held the same price point as the other two. If anything Prismatic Pearl should’ve been the one with the more baroque packaging.

Cover Shot: Petal Metal Eye Shadow Palette ($29.00). If you’re into warm, rose gilded metallics then you’re going to obsess over this palette. The Smashbox + Vlada Cover Shot contains 8 eyeshadow shades in Nude Rose, Rose Quartz, Floral Support, Rose Rocked, XO Vlada, Coffee Blossom, Fresh Stem and Opal Rose. Two of these shadows are matte while the rest boast a sultry metallic finish.

These shades are so soft and cool to the touch I almost thought they were a cream-to-powder finish. They’re that rich and pigmented! Coffee Blossom was probably the only shade that felt a little bit dry but I still found that it performed well on the eye. I thought the shades were easy to blend and layer. I was particularly impressed at the metallic impact even when using the shadows dry. When using an eyeshadow primer these shades wore well all day long without creasing.
