I don’t think I’ve EVER IN MY LIFE tried so hard to get a foundation to work for me as I have with the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. Originally I think I got this foundation in before it actually launched and I shared it on my Instagram stories. I tried it several different ways and also used different application methods. It just did not work for oily skin. At least, not as oily as my skin is. BUT I do think that everyone else (even those with semi-oily skin) will freaking LOVE IT.
what is it
The NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation is said to be a medium, buildable coverage foundation and is good to go for all skin types. It provides “up to 16 hours of lightweight, natural, fade-resistant wear, featuring full-powered radiance to smooth the look of skin”. There are currently 33 shades in the line.
review
When I first applied the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation my skin had never looked so perfect and flawless. The formula felt light, blended like a dream and was medium coverage without looking like it was. I had to obviously use concealer on some old acne scarring/dark circles but I had truly thought I found the holy grail of life. Like the actual fountain of youth but in foundation.
Sadly, no matter what I did or how I tried it, the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation was beaten down by the oils living in my face. I’ve tried this foundation with literally every.single.combo of setting powders, sprays, primers that I own… you name it. I even bought some others to try out. On a suggestion from a prominent makeup artist in a group I belong to I tried it with nothing as a base or to set (because that’s apparently how it’s designed to be worn). Nope. TBH wearing it with nothing was worse because the product not only got eating up by the oils but you could really see my pores after about 20 minutes.
The best mix of products that I tried the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation with was as follows: Too Faced Primed & Peachy Mattifying Primer as a base and the foundation applied with Sigma 3DHD brush. I set it with the Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder. This gave me medium coverage and maybe an hour or two worth of wear before all hell broke loose.
Like I said, with every combo, at first this foundation was holy grail levels of flawless. I’ve never been so upset that I can’t get a product to work for me.
I PLEA TO YOU, NARS! Make a version of this foundation for super oily skin. I will be your test dummy. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!

I also really wanted to love NARS foundation, but as a fellow oily girl, I had to return mine.

I really hope they come out with something more geared towards oily skin that has the same type of initial finish as this. It looked so flawless at first!

I had a similar experience with MUFE HD – and I just tried it again this weekend. It looked so beautiful for the first 2 hrs – and then by 6 hrs it was a sticky, soaking in the pores, sliding off my cheeks and chin, caking in all the wrinkles mess. I even applied it lighter with a beauty blender to sheer it out. I’ve had oily skin all my life (btw – as you get older, it doesn’t help your skin with wrinkles, you just have oily wrinkles – they lied). I have no HG foundation – I just go from one to the next, some perform better, some worse – none ever really good.
I follow your blog b/c of your skin type so thanks for all the products you test, you save my wallet on lots of these!

I’m so glad I could help! MUFE did reformulate that foundation. A lot of people weren’t happy about that! I’m liking the new Physicians Formula also. The coverage is about medium but I take care of that with concealer lol
