It’s been awhile since we’ve seen something super different from NARS. This doesn’t bother me, as I’m a creature of habit to begin with. I love the familiar and I am generally not a fan of big surprises. But this new, limited edition release from NARS? Yup, I’m here for it.
On March 1, limited edition and exclusive to NARS Boutiques and narscosmetics.com, six Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigment shades will release.
Your power move: One swipe. All shine. Leave a lasting impression with intense eye color that glides effortlessly. Sets weightlessly. Shines endlessly. Densely packed, metallic pigments build and blend smoothly, while multi-dimensional pearls reflect light from any angle for an unforgettably dramatic look. Glisten up. Stare down.
Six shades of NARS Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigments will be available in: Shock ‘Em (shimmering pale rose), Slam (shimmering rose gold), Stricken (shimmering brown bronze), Riding High (shimmering antique green), Hammered (shimmering blackened red) and Naked City (shimmering bright cobalt blue).
what I love
The NARS Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigments are simply stunning. I’m not even into shimmers much anymore but I can see myself using these constantly as an all over eye look… especially the shade Riding High during the Spring months. The reflects are truly multi-dimensional and I really wish my photos could capture the beauty better.
There are definitely better ways than others to apply these (see more of that in “tips & tricks” below) but once you’ve gotten the hang of it I think you’ll really love the end result. I’ve found when I apply the right way these last all day over a primer or even another shadow (as shown below in “get the look”).
what I don’t love
Only one arrived “loose” which was in the shade Shock Em’. It was less opaque and a lot more chunky than the others. Like…. A LOT. The chunks are visible on the eye no matter how you apply or what you use to apply it. I wouldn’t say I hate it, I think it definitely will serve well with some looks, but I would call it my least favorite of all of the shades simply due to the chunkiness. But DAMN is it beautiful. I wish that the small chunks weren’t so apparent as the shade gives the eyes a really cool overall “wet” look. Please be aware that this one carried more fallout than the others as well and I did have some randomly fall into my eye in the middle of the day.
Other than the the only negative I have from any of the NARS Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigments is that the shade Naked City (which is the blue color) stains. Please make sure you’re wearing a good eye primer underneath.
tips & tricks
When using these dry I found it’s best to use your finger in a swiping motion vs. a patting one, at least at the first pass. This allows the color to apply evening, gives off less fallout and provides more pigment. For even less fall out you can apply these wet using a patting motion with your finger or a brush (though I prefer my finger with these ones).
Using the NARS Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigments wet will saturate them a bit more plus give off more of a metallic effect, but if you plan on putting them over an eyeshadow it really won’t make a huge difference. (TBH I prefer these worn dry overtop of another shadow).
swatches
Below all 6 shades of the NARS Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigments are swatched both dry and wet on bare skin (no primers) using my fingers.
get the look
Below are two looks where I used two of the NARS Powerchrome Loose Eye Pigments. I’m planning to post more looks soon but since these are limited edition I wanted to get the swatches and review up to you ASAP. Look 1 ended up being a full face look I took with my cell phone (the lighting was terrible for the up close shot – thanks, Winter in PA) and Look 2 ended up being one of my fave eye shots and looks of all time (because we finally got 2 seconds of sun – wooooo!)
