This week for Makeup Wars we’re inspired by Marsala, the 2015 PANTONE color of the year. Many were shocked and still aren’t impressed with this shade, but I’m so excited for it. It’s the shade of wine and it’s one of my favorite fall/winter shades regardless of what the “world-renowned authority of color” says. To celebrate we’re putting together some of our favorite Marsala-inspired looks and products to share with our readers!
For the face I didn’t want to overload on wine too much so I used Illamasqua Beg Powder Blusher (approx. $32.58 USD // Illamasqua) and Illamasqua Growl Lipstick (approx $14.00 USD on sale // Illamasqua) lightly. They’re both tones of Marsala but complimenting rather than matching. I thought about mixing in Illamasqua Peaked Velvet Blusher (approx. $16.29 USD on sale // Illamasqua) as well but thought it might make my cheek game too strong (isn’t it very Marsala meets Radiant Orchid, though?).
For the eyes I had to get into my Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette ($60.00 // Macy’s). It seems every one that posted already did a look with Sonic so I was final in my head that I would do something different… but it’s so pretty. Most of the looks I saw were on the bold side so I opted for a neutral look with a pop of Marsala (read: Sonic). Also, Vice 3 just may be my favorite Urban Decay Palette ever. It’s got stunning neutrals and flawless brights.
In the look below I’m wearing // Eyes: UDPP (as a base). For eyeshadows Undone on the lid, DTF in the crease, Sonic in the outer V, Last Sin at the inner corners & to blend out the crease, Truth to highlight and Brokedown smudged under the lower lash line. For eyeliner Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Muse on top and MAC Powersurge Eye Kohl on the lower lash line. The mascara is Urban Decay Subversion layered with Perversion (one coat of each) // Face: MUFE HD Foundation in 125, IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation Illumination in Light, Illamasqua Beg Powder Blusher, Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow // Lips: Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask to smooth the lips, Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheat with Illamasqua Growl Lipstick smudged on top.

I LOVE Growl! I wonder if I could pull that off.. it looks pretty similar to Rebel which I’ve been wanting for like a year anywyas hahaha. I should really get SOMETHING in this shade! I love Marsala fashion-wise, but I’m still not so sure about makeup because I’m so fair and it’s just a bit to reddish for me.. but who knows. I need to experiment more!

You guys are killing me with all this Marsala!!! I want it all. I started wearing Oxblood in the fall cuz I was sure it would be the next big color. It’s basically the same as Marsala. LOVE IT!!

Only on their website =( Bloomingdale’s had it for a bit but it seems they’ve pulled out of the US market for now. Hopefully we’ll see them back soon!
I think Sonic is a perfect marsala shade. I too am obsessed with marsala and need some more in my stash. Love the look you created. And I wish Illamasqua wasn’t so hard to find now
