I’m half-and-half with how I feel about this eyeshadow palette. Half of the shades are freaking awesome and the other half I’m like “UD WYD?!”.
On the positive side I’m loving the variety of shadows that you’re getting in this palette. For me, it’s truly something that I could take with me and be able to create any type of look that I need. In a perfect world I’d love a lighter, more neutral type of transition shade included but I can make the shades given in this palette work regardless of that.
Not all of the shades swatch well but I never judge the performance of a palette on swatches alone… how could you?
With that in mind some shades swatched beautifully and didn’t apply well where other shades swatched terribly but applied nicely to the eye. I was disappointed with Still Shot, Good as Gone, Hell Ride, Guilt Trip, Punk, Jet and Wildheart. I was meh about Weekender, Baja and Drift.
Shades like Breakaway, Stranded, Blaze and Big Sky worked best when used with a damp brush (I spritzed mine with Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray). This leaves just 7 of the 21 shades being, IMO, high-performing all around – 11 if you include the shades that work best when wet.
Application of these shadows is also going to depend on the brushes you use and the technique you decide to use. In my experience any brush that is too flimsy, rough or scratchy isn’t going to blend out those mattes nicely.
In a nutshell it’s a palette you’ll have to play around with and learn what shades work best and where PLUS figuring out what brushes you already own that can allow these eye shadows to perform at their best. It’s not ABH Subculture level of learning curve, but you’ll need to play around with things none-the-less.
For the price point you’re getting a lot of color options so it’s going to be up to you if you want to pay full price or wait for it to potentially go on sale.
The Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette is swatched below dry and on bare skin (no primers):

24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($21.00). Three shades of 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil were released with this collection in Double Life (reddish-brown metallic), Overdrive (deep green metallic) and Lucky (dark metallic copper).
You’ll never hear me complain about the limited edition Lucky coming back out. It’s one of my all-time favorites from Urban Decay! That being said Overdrive won my heart color-wise. It’s so vibrant yet wearable. If you’re a fan of teals you should NOT pass this up. Double Life is also beautiful and set to become another favorite.
Hands down the Urban Decay Born to Run 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils are my favorite part of the entire launch! Lucky is the only one listed as limited edition from this trio, so be sure to buy at least 3-4 just in case. I’m not kidding.

Vice Lipstick ($18.00). Three shades of Vice Lipstick were released with this collection in Ready? (metallic bright rose sparkle), 66 (comfort matte rich mauve-nude) and Marfa (comfort matte dark berry w/ pink micro-shimmer).
I bet you thought I’d say 66 is my favorite of this Vice Lipstick trio but really Ready? is my fave! I love 66 none-the-less and it’s definitely “me”. I’m even partial to Marfa because it feels so good on for a matte. I’m loving how they layer and see myself wearing them all quite a bit in the Fall (when I’m more into these types of shades).
All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray ($15.00). This cult-fave has a Born to Run makeover! It’s the same setting spray you love but with limited edition packaging (even in the cute mini-size!). I use De-Slick to set makeup but All-Nighter is my go-to for wetting my brush to use with shadows.
