Tarte Rainforest After Dark Fall 2014 Swatches + Review

August 6, 2014

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

The Fall 2014 Tarte Rainforest After Dark Collection is fantastical. Why? Because the palette is the best one since Aqualillies. Also everything else I’ve tried so far is amazing. And maybe I have a wishlist of other things. Don’t judge me!

First up, the Tarte Best In Faux Lash Extending Fibers ($19.00). Can we just pause for a minute to love the name? Best in Faux. It certainly is. These fibers work much like any other fiber extender, except the fibers are black instead of white. I love this because there is less room for error. You can maybe miss a bit of the fiber while you’re coating with mascara and that’s okay, because it’s not going to show. My eyes stayed looking large and lush all day long. The Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara mini that came along with it was nice as well and worked well with the fibers. I didn’t have any fiber fall-out or migration as the day went on. I think if you’re careful as you apply to only place one coat of fibers down before you seal with the mascara you should be fine. I am definitely going to be repurchasing this over and over. Don’t ever leave me. (For the eye below I used one coat of mascara, one coat of fibers, then sealed it with one more coat of mascara).

Next, the Tarte LipSurgence™ Lip Gloss in Envy (berry mauve, $19.00). The formula is that of all of the other LipSurgence Lip Glosses in that it’s semi-sticky but still feels okay to wear. This particular shade has no shimmer and works perfectly with the drama of the mascara and palette from this collection.

Finally, let’s talk about this amazing Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette ($38.00).

When I said it was the greatest palette since Aqualillies I wasn’t joking. Housed in this disc shaped palette are 6 eye shadows (Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve, Plum Away with Me, Up to No Gold, Tan-gled Up in You and Don’t Turn a-Brown) and three cheek products – Champagne (highlighter), Park Ave Princess (Bronzer) and Unleashed (Blush). I had no issues with any of these shades and I thought it was fabulous that you could make some many sultry looks that can take you from day to night. The purple, golden and brown tones will be so flattering this Fall and though this palette does lean very cool toned some warm toned beauties will still be able to rock it with the help of the Up to No Gold shade. This palette is full of A+ product, beautiful packaging and a mirror. The flat shape, sturdy packaging and secure clasp make it very travel-friendly.

In the FOTD below I’m using the Rainforest After Dark palette on both my eyes and cheeks. Eyes: I primed with NARS Smudge-proof base and placed Plum Away with Me all over the lid & under the lower lash line, Make a Mauve in the crease and Up to No Gold at the inner corners. Bare to Explore was used to blend out the crease. The eye liner is Bobbi Brown Chocolate Truffle Perfectly Defined Gel Liner up top and Bobbi Brown Scotch Perfectly Defined Gel Liner on the bottom. The mascara is Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara with Tarte Best in Faux Lash Extending Fibers. For the cheeks Tarte Park Ave Princess was used to bronze, Tarte Champagne was the highlighter and Tarte Unleashed was blushed at the apples of the cheeks and blended up toward the hair line. Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in Envy is on my lips.

What’s next on my list for Tarte? I want need to get my hands on the Amazonian Clay Dual Liner. It’s non-negotiable. I need that in my life. The Colored Clay CC Eye Primer Stick also looks pretty must-have like. Have you tried those?

What are your picks from the Tarte Fall 2014 Collection?

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Fall 2014 Collection is available now at Sephora, Ulta and tartecosmetics.com. This collection is limited edition.

Ok I have to ask, do the fibers hurt when they get in your eyes?

I’ve never had them get into my eyes, so I have no idea lol I’ve been wearing this quite a bit since I got it and never had an issue. I imagine if they were to get into your eye it’d definitely hurt, though. Since eye lashes hurt… I’m super bad with pain =\

I missed out on the Aqualillies palette and have kicked myself every since for that… so I wasn’t going to miss out on this one! I love it – the colors are so pretty, and look great on this brown-eyed gal. The blush, bronzer, and highlight are great, too.

I have been using this palette non stop since I got it. I must have that Lip Surgence shade too. I’m in love with how moisturizing they are!! The fiber wand looks kinda creepy, but I trust your makeup judgement, AND it looks awesome on your lashes. I guess I’ll try it lol! Gorgeous fotd as always!
