YOU GUYS. This was my first year ordering a Beautylish Lucky Bag and I think I got a really good one! I unboxed this on my Instagram stories (not “live” but live-ish lol) so some of you may already know what I got, but because it was such a wonderful bag with some hot ticket items I wanted to do this blog post and share some swatches as well.
Year after year I see my blogging friends opening up their Beautylish Lucky Bags. Generally when it comes to things that are “surprise” (whether it’s present exchanges, grab bags, etc) I’m pretty unlucky. The only exception to this is my blogging group where we do a Secret Santa because those girls just get me. This year I decided I was going for it. When the bags shipped I stalked social media to see what everyone else got. Some of the bags I was dying over…. other I was thinking “OMG if that is the bag I get I’ll be the saddest”. What’s nice is that in these posts people are willing to do trades. So if you got an item you dislike or that you already own it appears to be pretty easy to trade with someone.
Beautylish Lucky Bag 2018 – What’s Inside Reveal / Open Box Swatches
what is it
The Beautylish Lucky Bag releases once a year after the holidays. It’s available in two sizes – XL and regular. The XL Lucky Bag is $150 + shipping and US only while the regular is $75 + shipping and available internationally. Inside you’ll get at least double your money in product but it’s all a mystery. Beautylish only allows one sold per person and all sales are final.
Based on the Japanese New Year tradition of fukubukuro, Lucky Bags are mystery bags full of our favorite beauty products. In creating this year’s Lucky Bags, we were inspired by the legend of the Seven Lucky Gods, who are said to grant luck and good fortune in the new year.
The bags are filled at random and based off of pictures it seems as though very few bags are completely identical. I can almost imagine them with 5-6 bins and they just pull one item per bin at random and put it in your box. If you’re really lucky you’ll get even more surprises inside for an even better “Lucky Bag”, some even include a gift card to Beautylish! You can’t choose what comes in your bag other than saying if you have fair-medium or medium-dark skin (though foundation and concealer are not included in Lucky Bags they try to suit your skin tone as much as possible), but they are filled with products from the lines that Beautylish carries – so at least it narrows it down some for you.

Wayne Goss Brush 12 – for Contour Makeup
Wayne Goss Brush 12 ($53.00). This is a sculpting brush and I was over the MOON to get it. I own one other brush by Wayne Goss and it’s just a soft and luxurious as this one. I haven’t purchased more because they’re pricey, so getting one in this Lucky Bag made my day!
BECCA Apres Ski Eye Lights Eyeshadow Palette Review
Becca Eye Lights Palette ($45.00). This is from the Apres Ski Glow Collection and was an item that I had wanted to purchase. It’s a 7 shade, warm eyeshadow palette inspired by the shimmering skin perfectors.

Oribe Daily Ritual Cream Face Cleanser ($45.00). I love Oribe for hair care but I’m not well educated on their skincare items. I’m not really looking for a new cleanser so this will be included in the giveaway below.

Jouer Powder Highlighting Trio ($39.00). Another item I wanted to buy but passed on! I got the trio that included Skinny Dip, Rose Gold and Ice. Rose Gold and Ice are going to be go-to eye shadows for me… even though they’re technically highlighters I love them to amp up my eye looks!

Natasha Deonoa 54M Rosy Nude Matte Lip Color ($24.00). Yet another product I’m dying to try! I’m a huge fan of Natasha Denona and this shade is actually one I’d have probably opted for on my own.

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer ($4.90). When I purchased my Caffeine Solution I almost picked this up too. I’m glad I waited! Though products from The Ordinary aren’t pricey they’re very popular and hard to keep in stock. I’m shocked (but REALLY HAPPY) that Beautylish included them in a lot of the Lucky Bags.

final thoughts
All in all I’m VERY pleased with the contents of my Beautylish Lucky Bag. For $75 (+tax/shipping) I got $242.90 worth of beauty items that I’m excited to try out and to own. That’s almost a 75% discount off of the retail value of those items! It’s a total crap shoot what you’ll be getting but based off of this experience I am definitely going to get one next year and hopefully I’ll be able to snag the XL bag!

My favourite drugstore makeup product is essence 2 in 1 Eyeshadow & Liner waterproof in ‘She’s got the Mauve’ shade. It’s the most beautiful liner and eyeshadow and I wear it all the time! It’s more of a taupey grey with a hint of mauve but has a nice sheen to it. It’s gorgeous and so cheap! Like $5 or $7 CAD or something! Such a steal!
Rimmel has some great products. My favorite is all their mascaras.

My favorite drug store product is hard to find lately. It is the Freeman Bare Foot Softening Foot Lotion in Invigorating Peppermint & Plum. I live in the desert and spend more than half the year in flip flops and sandals. This stuff works wonders on cracked heels and smells absolutely wonderful!

My favorite drugstore product is petroleum jelly. I use it on my lips and in the winter I mix it with my lotion to use on my feet. I use it on my feet once a week at night. After mixing it up and applying it to my feet I put on (breathable) cotton socks. It works wonders for dry skin and it’s very inexpensive!

A new to me product I’m loving is Rimmel’s Instaflawless skin tint. I did not like their BB cream or their foundation, but this is good for light makeup days. An old favorite is Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lip Color in Sunset . It never leaves my bag, perfect MLBB and not sticky.
My absolute favorite drugstore product is my Lypsyl moisturizing lip balm. It is seriously the best thing ever!

I seriously need to get one of these next year! I’d heard a lot of mixed things from people, so I didn’t splurge this year and now I’m kind of regretting it. I don’t purchase from Beautylish often, so a lot of the brands included are ones I most likely own little to nothing from. I would have died to get a Wayne Goss brush or any of those Jouer highlighters!
I was impressed with my bag for sure. I did see a few bags that I probably wouldn’t have been happy with, and not just because I already owned some items lol but I think next year I’ll try for the XL bag. I’ve heard they give first dibs to people that spend over $1000 a year on their site, which I don’t come even remotely close to lol but if I don’t get an XL I’ll absolutely get the regular again.
