“You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit”. That is my mantra for my Beautylish 2019 Lucky Bag Unboxing.
I need to preface this entire post by saying that this is a great bag. In terms of products received and the value of what was included it was well worth the price I paid.
Unfortunately one of the items I got, the BIG item, is something I already purchased myself last year and the second biggest item is one I won’t use.
Keep reading to find out what I got!
Check out my Beautylish 2018 Lucky Bag here!
what is it
The Beautylish Lucky Bag releases once a year after the holidays. It’s available in two sizes – XL and regular. The XL Lucky Bag is $150 + shipping (US only) while the regular is $75 + shipping and available internationally. Inside you’ll get at least double your money in product but it’s all a mystery. Beautylish only allows one sold per person (per address/payment type) and all sales are final.
This year there was also an option to purchase a Jeffree Star Cosmetics Lucky Bag for $75 (+shipping) to get $150 of JS products.
This year Beautylish also offered a “Get One, Give One” Lucky Bag where for $150 you’ll get a regular sized Lucky Bag and you’ll be donating the second one to a teen at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Beautylish also matched that donation so technically Get One, Give One was Get One, Give TWO! So awesome!
Based on the Japanese New Year tradition of fukubukuro, Lucky Bags are mystery bags full of our favorite beauty products. In creating this year’s Lucky Bags, we were inspired by the legend of the Seven Lucky Gods, who are said to grant luck and good fortune in the new year.
The bags are filled at random and based off of pictures it seems as though very few bags are completely identical. I can almost imagine them with 5-6 bins and they just pull one item per bin at random and put it in your box. If you’re really lucky you’ll get even more surprises inside for an even better “Lucky Bag”, some even include a gift card to Beautylish!
You can’t choose what comes in your bag other than saying if you have fair-medium or medium-dark skin (though foundation and concealer are not included in Lucky Bags they try to suit your skin tone as much as possible), but they are filled with products from the lines that Beautylish carries – so at least it narrows it down some for you.
what is inside
Inside my Beautylish Lucky Bag I got 6 items. I already owned one and there were two others I won’t use. I’ve never swapped my Lucky Bag items before but apparently you can do that?! I’ll likely go that route and try to get some things that will be better suited.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette ($42.00). This is a FABULOUS addition to a Lucky Bag but unfortunately I already own it. It’s one of my favorites that I do use frequently so it’d have been a huge win otherwise.
BECCA Prismatic Amethyst Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed ($38.00). Again, someone else would love this… but I’m not a highlighter girl… particularly one with this tone. It’s beautiful to look at but not something I’ll use.
Wayne Goss Brush 10 Cheek Brush ($38.00). If anything makes a Lucky Bag worth it for me it’s the Wayne Goss Brush that seems to be included for everyone, every year. These brushes are ALWAYS pricey but they perform like no other, feel amazing and literally make makeup application effortless.
Benefit They’re Real Beyond Mascara ($25.00). An excellent mascara that would be a fabulous addition in someone else’s bag… I’ve tried this before and while it’s great for me for daytime it’s not a favorite option for a fuller, thicker lash on me.
Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo ($22.00). I received the 1.3oz size (which is the smaller size) but am happy with it because I’ve used this in the past and loved it. It’s just pricey AF so I never repurchased.
Good Molecules Wake Up Eye Serum ($??.??). This had a “Coming Soon” label wrapped around it. I’m not sure if it’s a new brand or one that it just new to Beautylish but I’ll never turn my nose up at an eye serum with caffeine in it! Super excited to try!
final thoughts
All in all I’m VERY pleased with the contents of my Beautylish Lucky Bag. For $75 (+tax/shipping) I got $165.00 worth of beauty items. Though several of the bigger items are ones that I’ll pass along for whatever reason this bag in general would’ve made someone else very happy. Value wise, it’s a great deal.
Last year my Lucky Bag was INSANE value wise and though this year’s bag came no where near that one I will still buy again next year. When you purchase a Lucky Bag you have to remember that it’s a total crap shoot what you’ll be getting. I talked myself out of an XL bag this year, but next year I definitely want to go for it and see what I get!

These products all look amazing! Thank you so much for sharing these pictures. I absolutely love that palette and highlighter. And that brush looks wonderful.
The Becca highlighter is my favorite! Finally a highlighter that isn’t gold or bronzy. Of course, I use so very sparingly, just a tad on top of checks on date night with hubs or glam night with the girls. Mine will last forever. I don’t own a Wayne Goss brush, I can’t bring myself to spend but realize that there is no comparison (IMHO) between inexpensive and expensive brushes. While my cheap brushes apply ok, I don’t see longevity in them given how the ferrules already wiggle.I need to stop impulse buying and get some good brushes.
If you get any Wayne Goss Brush I have to recommend starting with the 04 Crease Brush for shadow (it does the work for you, so it’s hard to get used to but omg) and the 12 Sculpting Brush. The sculpting is INSANE expensive but I love it. If it were cheaper I’d buy another. I got that one in last years lucky bag but I’ve bought a few Goss brushes for eyes on my own. I wish my whole collection was full of Goss brushes lol they’re so good.
