Oh, you didn’t know I’m currently on a makeup no-buy? Go to this post to catch up!
Because this is a brand new (and apparently surprising to most of you) journey for me I thought it best to do a monthly update to not only hold myself accountable but also share the struggles, tips, tricks (if any) and basic survival methods of a makeup no-buy.
Oddly, during this first month, I spent more time actively searching for new products than I did previously. It doesn’t seem like releases have slowed down at all, but surprisingly there was a lot I just wasn’t interested in. Even without my no-buy I doubt I’d have purchased a lot. I mean… there’d have been WAY more, obviously, but not what you’d think. So I guess the best tip would be to say don’t limit yourself. Go ahead and look and let yourself add to cart… just don’t pull the trigger!
Am I growing up? LMAO … idk about that. Older and wiser, I guess, but really just tired of the constant revolving door that is makeup launches. Here are the “fails”:
On day one, a mere hour after I posted my no-buy announcement, my Boxycharm Premium subscription was charged to my card. LMAO I don’t consider this a fail by any means and it is the only beauty subscription box I still subscribe to. As of now I’m letting it ride because I do feel it’s worth the price (more on that here).
One product really did get me, though. The Makeup Geek Matrix Neutral Palette. I’ve been gravitating toward only matte eyeshadow shades because of the ease of use. This palette is ALL matte with one shimmer (perfect for my inner corner). I used a coupon code (PHYRRA for 10% off) and went for it because Afterpay. Incidentally it came damaged (only two of the eyeshadows were okay) and I’ve had a heck of a time getting Makeup Geek Customer Service to respond or follow through with anything they’ve said. I’ve deemed it my karma for breaking my no buy. More on this mess later.
Other than that all I picked up were some of my holy grail items – powder, concealer, skincare, shampoo/conditioner (which was an allowance from my no-buy original post) and for that I used an ULTA Beauty gift card… so technically I spent less than $4.
There are quite a few items that have released that I’ve been drooling over… don’t worry, I have a post coming on that too.
The first month of anything new is always the most difficult, but even with those minor “setbacks” I know I can do this and see it through until April 1.
Have you been on a no-buy or low-buy this year or have you in the past? Let me know how it’s been going for you!

Eye shadow palettes are my weakness – but I keep telling myself I don’t need them! I have so many that they end up collecting dust anyways!
Brooke says
SAME! Isn’t it wild how even though so many look similar we just always have to have them?! ugh!

I’ve been on a low-buy for eye palettes and lippies since the last Sephora sale. I haven’t purchased anything new, yay. I kept having eye palette FOMO and buying releases that were fails on someone my age. I have so many lip products and I buy almost identically the same shades. I haven’t cleaned out on purpose, seeing all of it reminds me I don’t need more! My low-buy crutch!

Eye shadow palettes and lippies get me as well. Especially the palettes. My eye palette FOMO was SO REAL last month. Not buying Sydney Grace still hurts lol. With the lippies I always get the nudes and lately have only been wearing glosses so idk why I still want all these darn nudes. I guess we could have worse vices, right?!
Ally McBeagle says
Exactly – worst vices abound (I’m a nail polish hoarder too).

I’m still holding strong with my no-buy. I haven’t really even been very interested. I emptied my bathroom closet and reorganized my backup skincare/hair care and realized I will probably go all year without rebuying much of anything there except shampoo and conditioner once or twice, and sunscreen when my two backups run out.. For makeup I might need a primer before the end of the year but not much else. I have some financial goals so I’m staying firm!
Brooke says
Stay strong! You’re doing amazing! Isn’t it an awesome feeling to purge some things and reorganize? It’s pushed me to purge everything, not just my makeup/beauty. Loving it!

I’ve been looking and putting things in my cart but I’ve always closed it before I bought. I still want a few things but I can do without. I know I’ll need shampoo but that can wait another month before I really need it.

We’re twinning lol I feel like if it’s still in my cart at the end of this no-buy and I’m really feeling like I could still use it then I’ll buy it on April 1. Otherwise it’s out the cart we go. I’m more than likely going to do an April 1 haul (probably not even a big one) and shut it down again for another 3 months.
