Never do I ever waterline my top lash line. It’s not that I don’t like the way it looks, it’s that I can’t stand the feeling while I’m doing it and also it ALWAYS transfers to places I don’t want it to.
I thought that my life just wasn’t meant to have upper lash waterlining in it.
Until I tried the new Maybelline TattooStudio Eyeliner Pencils.

what is it
The Maybelline TattooStudio Eyeliner Pencils are full of claims. These pencils are said to “deliver smooth strokes and intense color”, while they “glide on seamlessly for Maybelline’s longest-lasting wear yet! This sharpenable eyeliner delivers pigment-rich hues, precise definition, and a 36-hour finish that lasts from day-to-night and beyond”.
They’re also touted as being “waterproof, no smudging, no fading, sebum resistant”.
Eight shades are available in Deep Onyx, Bold Brown, Striking Navy, Deep Teal, Rich Amethyst, Polished White, Sparkling Silver and Intense Charcoal.

review
The Maybelline TattooStudio Eyeliner Pencils are amazing. In every single way, shape and form… totally stellar. You don’t need to press hard at all to get a good, even, pigmented line across your lid and even when I waterlined (top & bottom) they did not transfer anywhere they weren’t welcome.
Because I didn’t have to press hardly at all it made waterlining even my upper lash line quick & easy. PLUS, most importantly, it didn’t give me too much of that terrible tickling feeling that makes my skin crawl when I try to do this with other liners.
I’d LOVE to see some more shades, preferably in a gilded pewter and a true gold. My fave from Anastasia Beverly Hills has long been discontinued and the two I love from Urban Decay were both limited edition.
Note: They are incredibly hard to remove, you need to use a good makeup remover. This is my all-time favorite and also affordable eye makeup remover. Deep Teal did stain slightly over a thin primer, but if I use a thicker primer I didn’t have any issues. This is my favorite opaque eye primer.

Whats do you sharpen it with. It is plastic. This is the second one I bought. When I tried to sharpen my first one it didn’t work. I ended up throwing it away. It looks like it should push up.the bottom comes off but doesn’t twist. I really like it I don’t want to waste another one. They are pricey. Would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks Flo
Hi! I use a regular makeup pencil sharpener. They’re a few years old but one is from Urban Decay that just came in a set with their pencils and the other is from MUFE. ELF has one that is awesome, also – $2 & should be available with the Maybelline (my Target has them, not sure about drugstores). HTH!
If you put your eyeliner in the freezer for 30 minutes, or overnight… before you sharpen in, it will sharpen very easily.
Maybe, I bought a defective eyeliner, but how do you get more lead point out? It doesn’t twist out like other self-sharpener liners, nor push out. I think I will be returning it. (Love the charcoal but point is getting down to opening without means to advance more of the color point.)
I think this is a common problem with this liner. It’s not a twist up, you have to sharpen it yourself. You wouldn’t believe how many people have sent me DM’s on social asking about this! It’s also a frequent complaint in their retailer reviews. Any sharpener works, I’ve used one from Urban Decay and also NARS =)
I loved the colors but honestly this eyeliner doesn’t work effectively after it is sharpen. It becomes hard and doesn’t slide on smoothly like the first couple 9f time I used it before it was sharpened. They are pricey so, I will return it.
I’m wondering the same thing! What good is this product if you can’t get more then one use out of it, because you can’t push up more pencil 🤷♀️
I think I need to pickup the Intense Charcoal, I have so many UD Zero but sometimes want something a bit softer looking. Great photos and review!
Thank you!
Charcoal is so hard to find…. I get what you’re saying about sometimes it comes off too harsh, especially on the lower waterline (for me, anyway). This one definitely looks softer than Zero & stays a lot better also. I love the UD and wear them frequently but after a few hours they’re mostly gone from my waterline. The Maybelline stick through my day on the top and bottom without transfer!
Great review! Do you have any pictures of you using them? Thanks for sharing this, going to target on the weekend to get these babies!

Not at the moment, things have been hectic. In a few of my past posts on here and IG in my EOTD and FOTD I’m wearing them. I think mostly the brown shade.
