This is the FIRST Boxycharm of the year! I’m so excited to show you all what I got inside my shipment for January 2019!
disclaimer
I no longer receive Boxycharm boxes from their PR. I can only imagine (I wasn’t notified, but no box showed up from them this month soooo….) that it’s because I posted the December 2018 box early on my YouTube channel.
This was completely my fault and when they emailed me regarding it I apologized and did end up putting the video to private until the day we were told it could be live.
While I wasn’t the only person (or even the first) to post early it still was completely my bad that I did so (obviously). I had an email regarding the date the boxes could go live sent to me many months beforehand. I forgot about it (I get a lot of emails and am extremely forgetful in general) and because I saw other videos already live + blogs had full spoilers up I stupidly assumed that it was fine to post.
ANYWAY. I do feel that Boxycharm is an EXCELLENT beauty subscription service. Literally the best one out there in terms of contents for ANY price point. I truly don’t know how they can provide what they do for such a small amount of money.
Because of this I now pay out of pocket for my own Boxycharm subscription.
I’d been interested in the Boxyluxe upgrade for some time now and the only way to get that is by subscribing to Boxycharm and then upgrading when you get the email. I was contemplating signing up myself anyway just to get the Boxyluxe.
Now I can also speak more to their shipping times, emails and customer service whereas before I couldn’t because the box was coming to me early and also for free.
As of this blog post I’m currently still a part of their affiliate network. What this means is when you click my links in this post and sign up for Boxycharm I receive a small commission. I’m not sure if that’ll continue on. I don’t plan on quitting it myself but they can remove me if they see fit (I hope they don’t). I currently have some referrals pending and hopefully once those are paid out I’m not booted from that also. =(
I apologize to you for this somewhat lengthy explanation but I wanted to have it in one place (I also briefly addressed it in my February 2019 Unboxing Video) so that I could easily direct people here when they ask. I have received several emails already asking where my unboxing is and it’s just easier to link this up vs. explaining the situation to everyone.
This is the last time I’ll address it. I enjoy being candid and always honest about disclosing. If for any reason I am re-added to the Boxycharm PR list I’ll be sure to disclose that at the top of the post, as usual.
Now, let’s get to the unboxing!
what is boxycharm
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription box filled with 5-6 luxury items, 4 of which will always be full-sized. The monthly cost of Boxycharm is $21 but if you subscribe for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months you’ll receive a slight discount on the monthly boxes (down to $19.25). Renewals are automatic but you can cancel at any time.
Each Boxycharm box has a minimum value of $100 and you’ll receive anything from makeup to skincare to beauty tools. With some products shades can vary though with other products all boxes will have them included.
To find out how to best use the products received in the monthly box you can check out tutorials and looks shared by the “Charmer” community on social media.
Members are treated to exclusive offers from the best brands in beauty. You’ll also be eligible to win free products through giveaways and receive reward points which are redeemable in the Boxycharm Charm Shop.
what’s inside
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Strength + Moisture Leave-In Mask ($16.00). A moisturizing and strengthening mask that is said to “provide reparative benefits and beyond”.
My scalp is oily but because of coloring my hair the rest of it is dry. I frequently use Olaplex but since I have enjoyed Briogeo products in the past I’m excited to give this one a try.
This is a deluxe size product.
Everyone will receive a product from Briogeo but that product will vary.
Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick ($17.00). A matte liquid lipstick that is said to “deliver long-lasting color that perfectly outlines and fills in lips. The shade I received is called Havana Nights.
I am already a fan of the Ofra Liquid Lipstick formula but don’t have Havana Nights in my collection. I’m really excited to use this for Winter and think it’s the perfect lip pairing to the incredibly neutral Tarte palette that was included.
This is a full-sized product as well as a variation item.
Subscribers will either receive a lip product from Ofra, Bite Beauty or Smith & Cult. Shades from all brands mentioned will vary.
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Highlighting Eyeshadow Palette Vol. III ($36.00). This palette features 7 “highly reflective plush micro-shimmers and one matte nude that serves as the perfect transition shade”. The formula is touted as being both “blendable” and “long-wearing”.
Of the three Tarte palettes that you could get with this month’s box this would have been my last choice on what I wanted to receive. However it is full of shades that I’ll use frequently with looks, but not a palette that I would call inspiring. At least I know that I’ll use it, the formula from Tarte shadows is always impressive for me and I can wear it with anything.
This is a full-sized, limited edition product.
Subscribers will receive one of three different Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Palettes.
Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Face Mask – 2 pack ($24.00). You get 2 face masks that are said to use a “skin-quenching serum” that gives an “instant dewy, luminous glow”.
Tatcha Silk Canvas has become like my lifes blood in terms of makeup application. I’m beyond excited to have a couple masks to pamper myself with during these freezing months where my oily skin looks dull.
This is a full-sized product.
Everyone will receive this item.
Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Pencil ($19.00). A mechanical eye pencil whose launch is EXCLUSIVE to Boxycharm! This product is said to have an “intensely pigmented formula” that “delivers a beautiful color that lasts all day”. The shade I received is Black.
I don’t mind having yet another black eyeliner. TBH it’s really hard for me to find one that I feel is dark enough, but not super harsh, while also lasting all day on my waterline without migrating down my face. Fingers crossed!
This is a full-sized product as well as a variation item.
Subscribers have been receiving this product or a brow pencil from Billion Dollar Brows.
final thoughts
Was the box worth the money? YES!
No explanation really even needed. The Tarte Palette alone is $36.00 and no matter which of the 3 you get you’ll be able to put it to good use. I’m also loving the luxe skincare and the fact that this box contains products from highly trending brands.
You can still sign up for the January Boxycharm here. HURRY, supplies are limited. (Please note, there is a chance you won’t get the same box as me, as most of the products are variation items).
All of the products listed above are FULL SIZE (except if noted otherwise).
For reference – my box is VERSION 4.
The retail value of the entire January 2018 Boxycharm? $115.00! While this box is well under the retail value of last month’s box I think I’ll get a lot more use out of these products. IMO that retail value is well worth the $21 investment.

SPOILER ALERT
DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE SPOILERS OF THE UPCOMING MARCH 2019 BOXYLUXE!
boxyluxe spoilers
This is a new section I’m adding to my blog posts. As more spoilers are released I’ll either update this list or add them in with my February 2019 Unboxing post.
Boxyluxe is a quarterly upgrade where you pay another $28.99 (on top of your $21) to get over $300 worth of beauty. So far, IMO, they’ve been well worth it.
For March (which is the next Boxyluxe that is coming out) two spoilers have been revealed.
- Morphe Eyeshadow Palette. Each Boxyluxe will receive 1 of 4 Morphe Eyeshadow Palettes – 15H, 15D, 15N, 15B. Retail value: $16.00.
- IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream. Each Boxyluxe will receive this product. Retail value: $48.00.
I’ve gotten one email so far to get on the upgrade list but based off of those two products I’m not going to be upgrading.
Morphe is pretty affordable and while I’d be excited to get it in my regular Boxycharm I’m not excited to see it in a LUXE upgrade box. The IT Cosmetics cream is fabulous for those with normal-to-dry skin, but for me it doesn’t work. I did like it at first but after a bit it was just too heavy and was making me break out. If you DO have that skin type I think you’ll really love it!
What are you thinking about the upcoming Boxyluxe?? Would you upgrade?
MMKinPA says
I had the BoxyLuxe upgrade for December and while I fed I got my $ worth, I felt like it wasn’t as great as I hoped. Haven’t used the Violet Voss or Wander palettes; mascara straight to donate box. I am using and enjoying the Elemis marine cream, the Luxie brushes. Will probably use the spongelle for feet. The brushes and cream made the value (but I would never have paid full price for the cream!). January as meh for me too – that palette is soooo boring and I don’t wear super dark lips. And the Morphe in March’s Luxe – beyond disappointing- not “luxe” and Boring!!
Brooke says
I agree, the Morphe definitely doesn’t make the price. They’ve teased it’s over a $300 retail… I’m curious to see what else will be in there. I don’t imagine it’ll be more eyeshadows because of the Morphe… and they’re usually not heavy in skincare (thankfully). I bet it’ll be a tool of some kind? I’m hoping for a MAJOR brush set (and not from Morphe). Like… I don’t want their JH Vault leftovers. =\ I will take any leftover Quay sunglasses tho lmao
