It truly doesn’t matter how good your makeup is or how well you apply it. You can be the top certified makeup artist in the world and if you skip the skin prep stage of applying makeup, your entire look will be a HUGE fail. Prepping can be as involved as you want it to be, but for me… I just don’t have time for that. In this post I’ll be sharing how I prep & hydrate my skin for makeup (whether it’s minimal or full coverage) and why it’s so important.
For skin prep we need fast and we need easy, so not a lot of steps. Regardless of the look (full coverage or no makeup-makeup), it’s still gotta be quick. The first thing you have to do when you start your prep routine is to cleanse the face. For me, in the mornings, I reach for a wet cleansing cloth because I want to cut out as much time as possible. Swipe over the face and toss that wipe out.
Next is the most important step – moisturizing. As I’m getting older I’ve been looking for more affordable options for preventative, anti-aging skincare. With that in mind, I’ve started using the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. This cream fit the bill in terms of pricing and performance. It moisturizes, it plumps and doesn’t sit on the face forever. You can apply this cream all over your face and neck. It then quickly soaks in allowing you to apply your makeup right away. Keeping your skin hydrated is crucial to your makeup prep as well as your anti-aging skincare routine.
The new formula of the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream has Amino Peptide Complex II, Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) to regenerate surface cells (which helps takes years off your skin’s age). An independent study by the Good Housekeeping Institute even shows that the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream performs better than TEN prestige (and super expensive) creams – which is exactly what I want. Better than prestige performance at a price that won’t make me cry.
Finally I dot on a light eye cream (even though my skin is oily, my under-eye area is ridiculously dry and if I skip this step my under-eye makeup will look flakey) and allow that to set in.
Really that’s all I do to prep. I know people can get really into it and that’s totally okay! Once my kids are older and I have time for morning face masks and things, trust me, I’ll be on it!
Below is my no-makeup before using Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream and then immediately after. There isn’t a huge difference but my skin looks a little more supple, making it ready for makeup!
Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream will benefit the skin of anyone at any age. With the full size price point being only $26.99 MSRP and a trial size only $10.49 MSRP what have you got to lose? Click to shop.

I’d definitely try a trial size if I found it in the unscented version.

I should revisit this, it used to be too rich for me but now that my skin is drier, it might work again.

That’s a good question. Usually I just use a moisturizer but if I’m good I use toner, moisturizer and eye cream!
I totally need to check this out. Especially since I’m on a budget.

Holy cow! That’s amazing! I guess I need to check this out.
I used this fabulous anti-aging moisturizer for at least 10 years before I became a blogger and had to review other skincare products/brands. I think it is an incredible value, and it definitely helped stave off the marks of time for me. Love this stuff!
