February 2013 Birchbox Review & Photos

February 22, 2013

The February Birchbox has me feeling a little indifferent. I like the items, but I can’t say I’m thrilled with this month’s box as a whole. The Color Club Nail Polish probably saved it. But now I’m getting ahead of myself….

IMG_6155As you open the box there is a card resting on top of the tissue paper that tells you about the theme of the February Box (which is Red Carpet Ready) and on the back tells you what is inside.

IMG_6158 IMG_6164Under the tissue paper are this month’s goodies!

IMG_6170 IMG_6176First, from Color Club, the Nail Polish in Wild Cactus. This jelly emerald shade looks even more stunning in person than it does in the photo. The formula was phenomenal and it was perfectly opaque in two coats.

IMG_6607Next, from Lancome, the Le Base Pro Makeup Primer. It says this is oil-free, but I thought it felt rather oily. It didn’t seem to settle into my skin quickly at all and left it feeling slick. I wasn’t a fan of this, which is a shame because I usually love all that is Lancome.

Third we have the Miss Jessie’s Original Pillow Soft. This is a lotion for curly hair to help fight frizz and keep curls soft. My hair does have some wave to it, but generally I don’t do it up curly. However, this is a nice product to use on those lazy days. I thought it did leave my hair feeling lovely and soft, but it didn’t make it wave or curl really well. For that I stick to my surf spray!

Fourth is the Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator. It sounds like a machine! This exfoliating cleanser smells fresh and left my skin feeling soft. The professional-grade microderm crystals and papaya enzymes are said to brighten the skin, though after one use I didn’t notice much difference. Unfortunately, I only received a sample size of this product, probably good for three uses, and I don’t think a huge difference would show by then.

Finally, as a treat, this months Birchbox included a yummy Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate & Caramel Square. Um, YUM. Every Birchbox should include Ghirardelli. Happy dance!

Like I said, I wasn’t totally disappointed, but I was left wanting for more. I think mostly because some of these items were things I had no desire to try. Overall, I’m usually happy with whatever Birchbox throws my way, and it’s certainly not so bad I’d cancel… but I’m really hoping March steps it up a notch *fingers crossed*. Usually after one that has me going “wtf” a really amazing one pops up.

Wanna sign up for Birchbox? (Click for referral) If you like what you see go to the website and fill out the form. It’s just $10 a month (free shipping too!) and you get some cool stuff, tho I will warn you, you’re going to get stuff you hate as well. All in all, for the $10 it’s worth it. I love getting mail! haha February

***Disclosure – I buy my own Birchbox, but the link posted in the above paragraph does give me referral points which I can use towards product on the site. Once you sign up for your own Birchbox, you’ll also get a referral code to send out to others and get some points of your own!

Do you know if Color Club polish is similar to OPI Jade is the New Black?Thank you for your time

I took a peek at Scragies swatches and they do look extremely similar! Unfortunately I don’t own the OPI to compare =(

Don’t set aside the Vasanti exfoliator before you give it a real chance. I have one from a Canadian sample box and it’s lasted me several months. You only need to use a tiny bit each time. I’m more a fan of chemical exfoliators, but I like using the Vasanti when I think I need a little more help. 🙂 Anyway, that polish looks fantastic! I’m glad there was a gleaming gem in your box.

Thanks! I used it last night and I think I got a hive from it lol might be a coincidence. I’ll give it another go before I decide to toss it.

Ack. Skin reactions are not fun. I commend beauty bloggers on daring to try so many new skin care products. I have great skin care routine, and I “messed up” my skin by trying out samples. Thankfully my skin is getting back to normal. The plethora of skin care samples is a big reason why I unsubscribed from my beauty box.

Ooh. My previous comment sounded so negative! The intent was to compliment you on your testing-bravery. 🙂 lol

ROTFL that’s okay, I took it that way so it’s fine 😉

I took some samples to Disney with me and within a few days broke out like no other. Never again!

I got a different box but I am also not feeling it. I did get the same Color Club polish and same chocolate. The other items I received were Lancome Bi-Facil eye makeup remover, a cleansing body gel by Skin&Co Roma, and an elastic headband from twistband. I am glad I got these instead of what you received. I think my Ipsy subscription is causing my disappointment here. I keep getting really good Ipsy bags.

That Lancome primer looks fantastic, but based on your reviews it’s not that great :(. I just posted a review of my February Birchbox on my blog. I received some amazing beauty products this month.

My box was different than yours. My Color Club wasn’t the pretty green color but a cherry red called Mamba. I got a tiny little sample of Jouer Matte Moisture in Linen. Disappointing because it’s so small plus linen is too dark for my complexion. They really need a fair option when you fill out your profile. Kerastase hair masque which I plan to try. I did get the same chocolate treat and face wash as you did. I will use some of this but really overall this box was a let down.

Definitely email them about more skin tone options! I think a lot of girls would love the fair option. Hopefully next month is better for you!

I got the exact same Birchbox as you this month! I was pretty happy with this one - I’m excited to test out the Lancome primer & the Vasanti cleanser, and I like the nail polish a lot. I do have curly hair, but I hate the packaging of the hair sample - it’s enough product for 2-3 uses, but I’d have to decant it into a jar if I want to use it more than once.

I keep going back & forth with Birchbox, I sort of want to buy a whole year, I sort of want to just cancel. So I am keeping my month-by-month subscription for now.

I just can’t bring myself to commit for a whole year, even though I’ve been with them longer than a year to date LMAO What if I jinx it?!
