Since I started blogging over a decade ago things have changed. Everything grew until it exploded and now being an influencer is an actual job instead of just something that made people laugh when you said you made money doing it.
Because I’ve been in this industry since 2009 I’ve had the opportunity to see things change first hand. Change has never been very easy for me. I get comfortable in my ways and tend to dig my heels in even when it isn’t always the best idea to do so. I guess instead of growing with this industry, I’ve more-so watched it grow around me.
With all of that comes a heavy frustration. When you’re a creative person, you pour your heart and soul into what you do. Your chosen art is filled with what you love and there are always feelings of some kind tied into what you’re creating. Sometimes, it doesn’t always work out the way you planned. Sometimes, instead of fixing what is broken, you give up.
While I felt defeated I guess you could say I didn’t give up entirely. I’m still here, after all. I knew that a change was necessary to continue to be here. Once I came to terms with that I decided I needed to jump-start it. Then the perfect campaign landed in my inbox – a 30-day challenge that promotes four key strategies to help identify my dream readers and keep them coming back.
This challenge is centered around the book Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers by Russell Brunson, the Best-Selling Author & CEO of the $100M software company ClickFunnels. By completing the 30-day challenge, I’ll learn key strategies to increase my site’s traffic and own that traffic.
In Traffic Secrets, entrepreneur Russell Brunson shares classic and foundational direct marketing techniques that you can use to be at the front of new trends. His approach will allow you to see opportunities that are invisible to everyone else. Russell shares how to master evergreen traffic strategies and fill your website with your dream customers.
During this 30-day challenge, the one that resonated with me the most was on Day 6. On this day the focus was finding your ideal audience.
“That is the real power of the internet: it has allowed us to connect with like-minded people in a way that wasn’t possible before. It’s allowed each of us, with our unique and sometimes weird hobbies and interests, to congregate with our people to discuss the things that mean the most to us.”
That quote above (on pg. 30 of Traffic Secrets) is literally the reasoning of why I started my blog in 2009. I don’t know why, but those two sentences put me right in my place. You might think “oh, that’s common sense.” But, no… it wasn’t for me and it hasn’t been even a blip on my radar for a long time.
In 2009 I started my blog without a core niche and after a year (if that) it became a beauty blog. In the last few years, it’s reverted back to being that blog without a core niche. I truly felt lost in this space and thought about giving up so many times.
Since starting to read Traffic Secrets I’ve started to direct my attention to planning out an editorial calendar that focuses on what my audience WANTS and then also incorporate that with what I love too. There is a common ground that will make both my audience and myself happy. The 30-day challenge from Traffic Secrets has helped me realize that and I’m only half-way through.
Traffic Secrets has really forced me to look and actually find myself again. I feel inspired and I feel renewed. This book helps to open your mind to really see what trends people are searching for and guides you on how to best utilize them to work for your site. I cannot recommend it enough!
