WHAT IS BOXYCHARM

note: As of November 1, 2019 Boxycharm pricing is increasing. Info below the current costs.

Currently Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription box filled with 5-6 luxury items, 4 of which will always be full-sized. The monthly cost of Boxycharm is $21 but if you subscribe for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months you’ll receive a slight discount on the monthly boxes (down to $19.25). Renewals are automatic but you can cancel at any time.

Each Boxycharm box has a minimum value of $100 and you’ll receive anything from makeup to skincare to beauty tools. With some products shades can vary though with other products all boxes will have them included.

To find out how to best use the products received in the monthly box you can check out tutorials and looks shared by the “Charmer” community on social media.

Members are treated to exclusive offers from the best brands in beauty. You’ll also be eligible to win free products through giveaways and receive reward points which are redeemable in the Boxycharm Charm Shop.

Beginning in November new changes will take effect in Boxycharm-land. Most significantly, there will be three levels to choose from – Boxycharm, Boxycharm Premium and BoxyLuxe. 

The Boxycharm level is what you’ll be seeing in this post. Pricing is going from $21 a month up to $25 a month. The value of the box will increase from $100 up to $125, it will still arrive containing 5 beauty items and hit your doorstep monthly. You’ll be able to choose one item (they will email you when the time comes to do that), have the ability to purchase “add-on items” plus be eligible for BoxyPopUp and Rewards.

Boxycharm Premium is a brand new option. For $35 a month you’ll receive 6-7 beauty items valued at over $175. Like the original Boxycharm you’ll be able to choose one item (they will email you when the time comes to do that), have the ability to purchase “add-on items” plus be eligible for BoxyPopUp and Rewards.

BoxyLuxe is an option that has been around for a year now. For $49.99 quarterly you’ll receive 8+ beauty & lifestyle items valued at over $275. You’ll have the option to choose 3 of your items and like the other two boxes have the ability to purchase “add-on items” plus be eligible for BoxyPopUp and Rewards.

I’m curious about the Premium option and have put myself on the waitlist for when it becomes available. Hopefully my November box will be the Premium so we can compare to see if paying for the upgrade is worth it.

WHAT’S INSIDE

Dose of Colors Eyeshadow Palette ($32.00). There were several variations of this, many of which I already own. What are the odds I’d get the ONLY ONE I really wanted? Apparently good, because I ended up getting Pretty Cool!

Pretty Cool features 5 “ultra-pigmented, cool taupe shades with a smooth matte finish”. The Dose of Colors matte eyeshadow formula is one of my favorites and Pretty Cool is no exception. Boxycharm made my month with this one!

This is a variation item. While everyone will receive a Dose of Colors Eyeshadow Palette the color scheme and type may vary. 

Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow ($29.00). This is a hydrating mist that refreshes using light-reflecting properties that leave the skin with an “ICONIC glow”. It’s described as a multi-use spray that can be used to prep the skin, set a look or add radiance to bare face and body.

While this sounds amazing with it being a hydrating mist I know I’ll never use it. My skin is oily and while I don’t like it to look completely matte anymore this particular product may be too much for me. However if I did need it I would absolutely try it since it does not contain alcohol.

Hank & Henry Slick With It Mascara Duo ($19.00). This vegan mascara is described to not only be waterproof, but also not flake and transfer. The duo wand applicator is designed to add volume and length to the top lashes while the thinner side is perfect for easily adding mascara to the lower lashes.

The shade I got is “Clout” though I don’t see any other shades listed on the site. I’m in desperate need of a waterproof mascara this weekend (my grandpa passed away) so I’m hoping this will fit the bill. It was perfect timing in this months shipment + I love that the duo wand makes it ideal for both top and bottom lashes.

Mellow Tinted Brow Gel ($16.00). This lightweight, non-sticky gel formula is said to help you achieve “effortlessly tamed and tinted brows”.

Thankfully I received the shade Light Brown, which is likely the shade I’d have picked anyway. Too often I get dark brown or brown and they’re always way too dark. Note that I find the applicator to be way too large for my skinny brows (it’s much larger than in the promo pics on the website) but the formula is okay. I don’t think I’d repurchase it but I will get use out of it.

Go2 Beauty Sheet Mask – Set of 2 ($19.98). An “easy-to-use sheet mask” which contains “skin-loving ingredients packed inside”.

I could only find this on the CopyCat Beauty website so I’m unsure if this is their brand or they’re just carrying it. While the ingredients on the back of the package look okay I’m always a little wary of things I find little to nothing about online. I’m very prone to breakouts and like to research skincare before I use it. Because of that I’m not going to be using these sheet masks… even though I LOVE sheet masks. =\

Variation items will include Smashbox Always On Liquid Eyeliner, Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, Touch in Sol Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm, Chella Beauty Slanted Tip Tweezers, Milk Makeup Blur Spray and Iconic London Lip Plumping Gloss.

Any item mentioned above as a “variation item” without any explanation could possibly be replaced with one of these items in your own Boxycharm shipment. More items could also be included, these are just the ones I’ve personally seen so far. 

FINAL THOUGHTS

Was the box worth the money? I think you know the answer to that. The item I’ll be getting major use out of is the Dose of Colors palette and I saved some money getting it in Boxycharm vs. paying full retail. I’m also very excited to use up the mascara and brow gel. The ONLY items I won’t use at all is the Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow because it’s just not for me and the Go2 Beauty Sheet Masks because I can’t find more info on them.

The retail value of the entire October 2019 Boxycharm? $115.98! This boxes’ retail value is much lower than last month’s box, but obviously, based on my glee of getting the Dose palette, that retail value is well worth the $21 investment.
