Makeup Geek has released a new eyeshadow palette for Fall 2018 called Pumpkin Spice. I was obsessed with the color layout but there were only 2 shades that were exclusive to the palette.
Because I couldn’t talk myself into spending the $ on Pumpkin Spice and because I’ve been looking for a dupe of Potion from Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Dark Magic I decided to use the Makeup Geek Create Your Own Palette feature and do up my own personal Fall eyeshadow palette.
what is it
Initially I had wanted to try to dupe the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Dark Magic Eyeshadow Palette (with ANY brand) because I love the color scheme and layout of shades for Fall. It’s completely stunning. (If you didn’t already know I was majorly disappointed in the performance of that palette. My review is here).
I chose Makeup Geek to dupe the shades of Dark Magic because I know that (at least in my own experience) Makeup Geek eyeshadows never disappoint, they’re not super expensive and TBH I felt a little bad about how she got royally screwed over during her collab with Jaclyn. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Marlena (the owner of MUG) has a video explaining things here.
On the Makeup Geek website several shades that I thought would be good dupes for the shades in Dark Magic were sold out which caused me to go in another direction. My own perfect Fall palette.
review
Makeup Geek makes it incredibly easy to choose your shades and place them in the palette so you can see the full layout before you buy. I knew I wanted an inner corner highlight, an all over lid shade, a transition shade and then pops of Fall color.
I wanted this palette to be easily wearable and not only on trend for right now, but good for years to come.
ROW 1: Shimma Shimma (light pinky beige w/ a shimmery finish), Buffed (peachy tan matte), Hayride (soft beige matte)
ROW 2: Lucky Penny (medium rose brown w/ a shimmery finish), Moondust (metallic silver taupe), Grunge (blackened brown matte)
ROW 3: Preppy (matte khaki brown), Apple Spice (warm copper matte), Autumn Breeze (vibrant blue-leaning teal w/ a shimmer finish)
Shimma Shimma was chosen as that perfect inner corner highlight shades with Buffed as my perfect all-over lid color and Hayride as my perfect transition shade.
Lucky Penny & Moondust are two that I’ve just been lusting over whereas Grunge, Apple Spice and Autumn Breeze (along with Hayride) were a part of a Fall quartet that has had me drooling since I saw them online.
Preppy was chosen because I was hoping it’d be close enough to Potion in Dark Magic. It’s no where near it but it’s an excellent transition shade (as you’ll see in the eye look below).
The only shade in this palette that I already had in my collection is Buffed. I first got Buffed when I purchased the Makeup Geek In the Nude Eyeshadow Palette and it’s quickly become one of my favorites of all time. Being that Marlena has stated on Twitter that they’re discontinuing all shadows except for an unnamed 18, I had to throw it in this palette also. I also wanted to be able to use it without digging out another palette.
I’m loving the performance of all of the shades in this palette and can’t recommend the brand and formula enough. The eyeshadows are always easy to work with and wear all day. I’d love it if you share some of your favorites in the comments below!

EYES: Urban Decay Primer Potion // MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly // Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Buffed (all over from lid to brow), Preppy (transition shade & blended up), Grunge (outer V), Lucky Penny (lid all over the KVD Concealer & under lower lash line), Apple Spice (pressed into an arc at the tip of the cut crease then use more of the same color to lightly blend up toward brow… it basically covers all of Preppy lol but the combination makes a really nice gradient though), Shimma Shimma (inner corners of the eyes), Hayride (under brow bone area over-top of Benefit High Brow) // Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer in L5 Neutral (to cut crease) // Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Crave (top liner) & Stash (bottom waterline) // NARS Climax Mascara (top lashes) // Benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara (lower lashes)
BROWS: Benefit High Brow // Benefit Gimme Brow+ in 03 // Kat Von D Precision Pencil in Medium Brown
