Years ago I missed out on the first launch of Mario makeup with Anastasia Beverly Hills. I swore that would never happen again so when Kim Kardashian announced that KKW Beauty would be collaborating with Mario Dedivanovic on a makeup launch I knew I’d want it. I didn’t even care what it was but I was hoping it was an eyeshadow palette (YAY it was).
purchasing from KKW Beauty
I’ve never purchased a beauty product from KKW Beauty ever and TBH never wanted to (nothing has really appealed to me) so the launch with Mario was my first experience trying the brand and using the site. I expected a HUGE problem purchasing this product. I didn’t know about shipping so I’d also added in a contour stick (since I knew the bundle would be $85) to see if I’d get free shipping over $100. I didn’t. I was worried if I’d remove the contour stick I’d lose my place in line or miss out on the bundle so I went ahead and still bought it.
Shopping the site was a breeze and I was really impressed. It took less than a minute to add the bundle to my cart and complete check out. Not too long after that the lipstick sold out first. Followed by the bundle, then the glosses and then finally the eyeshadow palette. This also impressed me because it says they followed the hype and had a healthy stock of products available for everyone. note: a restock has been announced and it is on April 20, 2018.
what is KKWxMario?
The Kim Kardashian x Mario Dedivanovic Makeup Collab should come as no surprise to fans of either person. Kim is one of the most well known mega-moguls out there and Mario has been her personal makeup artist for 10 years now. To mark their anniversary the duo released this collection to honor everything they’ve been through together.
In this collection you’ll find a 10 Pan Eyeshadow Palette, 2 Lip Glosses in Juicy & Super Nude and 1 Lipstick in Classic K.
review
10 Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($45.00). The 10 eye shadow shades in this palette all are said to hold a special meaning between KKW and Mario. I LOVE this idea because even though the shade names appear to be sporadic it shows the bond between the two throughout the past decade.
The packaging is perfectly sleek which makes me think of Kim while the switch up to the grey shade (she usually uses a blush pink) reminds me of Mario. The perfect merriment of the two! It’s cardboard but heavy enough to be sturdy and keep your shadows safe.
The 10 eyeshadows in both matte and metallic shades are:
- 2008 (metallic icy silver)
- Glam (metallic rusted gold)
- Miami (matte warm caramel brown)
- Armenian (metallic bright light gold)
- Loyalty (matte deep chocolate brown)
- Decade (matte peachy cream)
- Albanian (matte brick red)
- Vegas (metallic deep burgundy)
- Libra (metallic cobalt blue)
- Bronzy (metallic coppery bronze w/ gold flecks)
I love this palette. The mattes blend really well and are all pigmented. The metallics are fine on their own but used wet they’re INSANE. Like, I can’t even use 2008 wet because it’s that in your face. The fact that they included a matte cream shade speaks to my soul (because SO MANY BRANDS DO NOT and they should!) as well as a good transition shade. Technically speaking it’s not a transition shade that would work for everyone but so far it’s been golden for every look I’ve done. Each shade wore all day over an eyeshadow primer.
Overall my only complaint about this eyeshadow palette is the fact that the shade names are on the back-side. If I’m holding the palette and flip it over it’s in order but when I was doing the tutorial it was hard to reference. That’s more on the influencer side of things but as a consumer I still like to know what shade I’m using when I’m using it without having to do the flip. It’s clearly better than the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette where there were NO names listed (I got the first run where we didn’t even get the included card) but in the future I’d love to see the shade names listed right under the shadows.
Creme Lipstick ($20.00). One shade is available in Classic K which is described as a “soft peach nude with beige undertone”. This shade pulls warm on everyone I see it on, even though it seems more rosy in a swatch. Even with a pinky-beige lip liner I noticed it was more of a terra-cotta tone. I think it’s lovely and I LOVE the formula (smooth, even and pigmented) but it doesn’t really say “KIM K” to me. Charlotte Tilbury Kim K.W. Hot Lips Lipstick speaks Kim Kardashian to me, but maybe they went in this direction to keep it a little more new-age Kim?
Gloss ($18.00). The gloss is available in two shades – Juicy (natural sheer peach w/ subtle pink pearl) and Super Nude (pale sheer nude with gold pearl). Both are stunning and speak KKW to me. I love Juicy layered with Classic K and both glosses look good on their own. I like to wear them a little more on the sheer side so I apply some color on my lower lip and use my finger to spread it around. The formula applies evenly and IMO isn’t sticky at all. I’m not catching any type of fragrance either.
