When I think of Summer I think about all of the brightest, boldest, most-beautiful things on the planet. It’s like it’s that time of year when anyone and everyone can wear that hot pink eyeshadow or have those in-your-face blonde highlights. Get ready, because in this post I’m going to talk about a few inexpensive-ish products that you’ll need in your life this Summer.
You all know you need the SPF, so we’re not even going to heavily go there. I love to use any type of “Sport” SPF on my body because it doesn’t sweat off as easily. I can be forgetful about reapplying on myself so this is a must.
For my face I usually go with makeup that carries an SPF overtop of the Emme Diane Tinted Mineral SPF40 ($46.00). You might be all like “girl, that is NOT inexpensive” but really, to me, it is. It’s SPF that doesn’t make my face break out and it has a slight tint to it. I still have some acne scarring that’s too visible so I can’t wear it alone yet but if you’re blessed with beautiful skin you totally could. I’ve been loving it!
For hair highlights are a must. If you can’t visit a salon then you can do the highlights right at home…. heck you can do them yourself right on the beach. SunIn Hair Lightener ($3.48) provides natural hair highlights while you relax in the sun, watch your kids baseball game or even sit in your house. I’m more of a “results now” type of person so when we use SunIn we spray it all throughout the hair and then put the heat to it. Recently I’ve been using the T3 Cura Hair Dryer (which is currently on sale for $149!). Check out Lydia’s before/after pics of using SunIn here!
For makeup in the Summer it’s go bold or go home. Sure, you can be bold any time but I’m old school in that I feel like brights are for Summer and vampy shades are for Winter. I’ve been obsessing over the entire E.L.F. Cosmetics x Christian Siriano line ($6.00-$12.00). It’s literally everything that Summer makeup should be. Bold, bright, beautiful…. plus he’s the very reason I started watching and became obsessed with Project Runway!
In the smoldering months I also keep my face/cheeks serious with the bronzer and the highlight. My current drugstore favorites are the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer ($14.99) and the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glow Nude Highlighter Palette ($14.99). The bronzer smells of the beach with a coconut fragrance while the highlighter captures crazy light for a stunning multi-dimensional glow.
I love that with the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glow Nude Highlighter Palette you can mix & match or layer the shades in the highlighter palette for a customized look. I love this feature because it seems like no matter how much SPF I wear my skin tone will darken some. When I have a good palette on hand I know I can customize a new shade instead of having to purchase something new.
Because the eyes are as bold as I wanna be I like to keep the lip somewhat understated but still on-trend for Summer. I’m loving the new shades from the Jesse’s Girl Glow Stix line ($9.95 each) because they’ve got a holo look to them. They’re perfect alone or layered with a darker lip color. They catch the light like you wouldn’t even believe!
If my eye look borders on demure I’ll go to a metallic lip like the Soap & Glory SPECTACULIPS MATTE-ALLIC Matte Lip Cream ($12.99). They’re lightweight and exactly what the lips need to stand out in the sun.
For the nails you know you’re never fully dressed without that mani/pedi. I love to pick pinked out shades like Essie Be Cherry ($9.99). This shade was technically from their Winter line but it’s got a hotness to it that I’d love to see on my toes by the pool.
Maybe you feel like I’m being really extra in this post, but I live in PA and I’m tired of the snow and the rain and the junk weather. GIVE ME THE SUN!

Great picks! I LOVE the PF butter bronzer on my fair skin. Also, used to love Sun-In when I was a teen! It worked so well on my virgin hair. It definitely didn’t make it feel like straw at all like the commenter above but I guess it depends on the condition of your hair in the first place!

The condition of the hair would totally make sense! I had dark hair when I was little and this was fine for me but mine was pretty thick and not much could kill it off…. until I had kids bahahaha that definitely made it go right to you know where.

Sun In is very hard on the hair, and the “HIGHLIGHTS’ will only be a decent color if the hair is pretty light to start with. Otherwise, it might be too brassy. And it dries out the hair. Hello, end-of-summer straw!

I must agree with Denise! It gives me flashbacks to the 90’s. I would douse my hair daily, desperate to become a beautiful blonde goddess. I just had terrible orange hair. LOL
Brooke says
Mine never got orange! I had some highlights already that were natural so maybe this amped that up and left the rest alone. It worked really well on my daughters hair also but we first tried it in the colder months so I blasted it with the high heat from the Dyson hair dryer. The results were so good!
