Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette Review, Looks & Swatches

March 27, 2018

[button link=”#” target=”_blank” color=”default” shape=”rounded” size=”small”]Press Sample/Affiliate Links[/button]

Purple fans of the world, this is your year. Besides the fact that the Pantone Color of the Year resides in the purple family it seems like every brand is jumping on this trend of releasing a purple-hued palette. The Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette ($46.00) is the latest to hit the shelves and it had me in lust at first glance. After I used it, however… I fell into a deep and actual love.

Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette

what is it

The Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette is listed as “a go-anywhere, do-anything eyeshadow and face palette inspired by Backtalk, Urban Decay’s bestselling, cult-favorite Vice Lipstick shade”. It’s two palettes in one travel-ready case that has a removable mirror in the center.

Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette

One side contains 8 x Eyeshadows in 3 Sheets (pale pink-nude matte), Bare (light pinky-peach satin), Curve (metallic rose shimmer with silver micro-glitter), Backtalk (soft rosy mauve matte), Shade (deep fuchsia satin), Attitude (metallic red-copper), WTF (reddish brown matte) and 180 (metallic brown-red).

The other side carries 4 x Blush/Hightlighter shades in Cheap Shot (medium pink-nude), Double Take (rich mauve with slight shimmer), Low Key (pink-peach) and Party Foul (light pink-nude shimmer).

review

You guys I love this palette. If you love eyeshadow shades that all sport a purple undertone, I think you’ll love it too. When you look at the palette it’s easy to think that it’ll have more of an intensity than you’ll actually get, unless you use some tricks. For the more metallic shades wet your brush first before applying and for any of the shades you can always layer them over-top over the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. I personally found that everything was pigmented enough for my liking all on it’s own. I’m more of a daily eye look type of girl, but even the more demure looks stood out. I got so many compliments on Look 2 below that my friends husband teased me to the ends of the Earth. I didn’t care, because all that tells me is that it.looked.good. I sold at least 10 UD Backtalk Palettes that day.

Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette

I was impressed with all of the eyeshadow shades and felt they performed the way I wanted them to. WTF was a little patchy when first applied but it was smooth to layer and blend out to make it appear the way I needed it to look – a really good, soft brush made a big difference!

As for the blush/cheek shades I enjoyed them quite a bit, in particular Double Take and Party Foul. Party Foul was my go-to inner-corner eye highlight. I felt it was amped up enough dry but you could spritz your brush and really make it pop. The same goes for Low Key! Double Take feels dry to the touch but was pigmented on the cheeks so much so that I needed to use a light hand when applying. Cheap Shot also required a light hand and looked beautiful on.

Urban Decay Backtalk Eye & Face Palette

I’m on the fence about this removable mirror. For the most part I love it because it stands straight up and splits the two sides of the palette nicely. It’s easy to remove and replace without effort. TBH I can’t even tell you why there’s a part of me that doesn’t like it… maybe just because it’s different? Which should be a good thing lol

The brand also sent along some coordinating products to create some looks with, all of which are currently permanent within the line.

I always love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. Five shades were sent in Zero, Demolition, Roach, Alkaline and Heartless. One of my favorite looks is with Roach and of course I didn’t take a pic of it, but make sure to pay attention to my Instagram stories. A couple people have DM’d me over there and requested a tutorial with this palette. I plan to do that this week, if not next week at the latest. I’ll save it to highlights also!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Backtalk (mauve-nude pink comfort matte) was of course the lip shade that was sent. It’s completely stunning, pigmented and comfortable. Exactly what you’d want to wear with every single look you’ll make out of your Backtalk Eye & Face Palette.
