Initially I planned on doing a “Best Skincare of the Year” type of post (like last year) and incorporating a new-to-me line since it’s what I’ve been using for the last almost 3 months. Never did I imagine that I’d be so impressed with this line of skincare that my best of the year post would be 90% dedicated to that one line.
Because of that I’ve decided to completely revamp this post and make it mostly about Emme Diane Skincare and my customized skincare routine for very oily, acne-prone skin.
Those of you that have been around awhile know that I suffer from the oiliest of oily skin and that acne has been the bane of my existence. To recap in high school and through my early 20’s I had no breakouts. An occasional zit, sure… but I was definitely one of the lucky ones.
Once I got pregnant breakouts ensued. I always seemed to have small breakouts all over my chin and jawline, at least one of which was cystic and painful. Several products helped and got me on track until my next pregnancy at which point it felt like all bets were off.
After my second pregnancy my hormones were not my friend. Again, several products did help but because of the type of life I lead (constantly testing out new beauty products) I never seemed to be able to get a steady, firm grip on my breakouts.
For the most part I ended up getting everything hormonal under control but I was still suffering from breakouts, now more-so on my cheeks along with on my chin. I even got a prescription gel from the doctor that didn’t help in the least. I settled into a routine of simply continuing with what was best and hoping to stumble on a new wonder product.
Fast forward to my friend Jen from My Beauty Bunny introducing me to Emme Diane Skincare. Jen has dry, acne-prone skin (her post is here). Her before and after picture had me sold before I could even blink.
what is it
Emme Diane is fantastic because right off the bat she’s on your side. You start by filling out a detailed questionnaire and sending her a picture of your bare face, right after cleansing. From there she’s able to give you a consultation and customize a routine for you to follow that, if you’re diligent, will slowly but surely heal your face.
You can also request a FREE eBook to see which product ingredients can trigger your acne to flare up.
Once you get the list of products suggested you can order them when ready. The best part about the entire thing is that the products arrive to you with a detailed explanation of what products you’re using, when to use them and how much to use.
For me, my routine was separated by weeks 1 though 4, after which we tweaked things a bit to really get at the stubborn acne-causing bacteria.
my customized routine
In the morning my routine for the first 1-2 weeks was to first cleanse with the Gentle Cleanser and then roll an ice cube on the inflamed breakouts for one minute. After that I spritz the Calm Down Toner on a cotton round to gently wipe over my face. This is also something you can spritz on throughout the day (even over makeup) if you’re feeling dry.
Next I put on 2 pumps of the Skin Quencher Gel and massage it in until fully absorbed. Afterwards I do the same with the Pure Light Lotion. During the day I would also follow up with the Tinted Mineral Sunscreen.
In the evening for weeks 1-2 I followed the same routine except after using the Skin Quencher Gel I would apply the Clarifying Serum and the follow up with the Pure Light Lotion.
The next night after the Skin Quencher Gel I would use 2-3 pumps of Acne Eraser 5%. With the Acne Eraser you can’t use lotions or eye creams after so on those nights my routine would end there.
During weeks 3-4 my morning routine remained the same except I would apply the Clarifying Serum before the Pure Light Lotion. In the evening the routine was also the same except every single night I’d use the Acne Eraser 5% instead of alternating every other night.
After week 4 I still had some breakouts, but not nearly like before. Since this was still an issue Emme upped my Acne Eraser to a mix of the 5% and 10% to create a 7.5% mix.
I did use a Micellar Water at this time also. In the evenings I’d use my YesTo Cucumbers Micellar Water to remove makeup before starting this routine. I did try out the Emme Diane Micellar Water but it made my skin sting a bit. It does contain alcohol and I imagine that might have been the culprit. I went back to the YesTo which has helped.
For my eye cream when I could use it I’ve been using a long-time favorite which is the Origins GinZing Eye Cream to help brighten and depuff. In the morning I also started to massage some of The Ordinary Caffeine Solution into the contours of my undereye area but I really haven’t been using that long enough to notice any major difference.
For masking I’ve been alternating between the Emme Diane Sulfur Refining Mask and also the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment. The Sulfur Mask is mostly a quick one that I do once a week in the shower and I do the GLAMGLOW as more of a night treatment when I need all the gunk sucked out of my pores.
When I upped my Acne Eraser to the 7.5% mix I did have another “purging” period that was more brutal than the first. When that happened Emme told me to do the 10% on the areas breaking out and the 5% everywhere else. Since then everything has started to calm down and the breakouts are receding. Right now I have one new zit but it’s teeny tiny (when normally they’re cystic and painful).
review
This is basically an idiot-proof skincare routine that is laid out so that you can actually stick to it and don’t feel like venturing off. I will warn you sometimes my skin would start to look better and I’d have one or two zits crop up but they’d fade away quicker than before and weren’t nearly as vengeful as past breakouts. I saw improvement after 2 weeks, a purge and then another major improvement. When my Acne Eraser was bumped up and I had another purge Emme quickly handled things and got it all back under control. Her help has been so truly amazing throughout this process.
I don’t see myself ever venturing off of this skincare routine. There will definitely need to be tweaks as I go on with things but I love how easy it is to follow, how helpful Emme Diane is with questions and advice and especially how affordable the products are in comparison to most others outside of the drugstore.
my before/after
As the product tester, this is always the hardest part. No one wants to show that before pic. What’s interesting is that until I looked at my before and after photos side-by-side I didn’t realize how much this routine had actually helped me. It was my before/after photo that really pushed me to want to continue with this line forever.
Is there other skincare out there that’s good?
Absolutely. Emme Diane and the other few products I mentioned are just what is working for me right now and this has been my skincare routine for the last few months. Once my acne is even more handled we will re-evaluate and tackle other skincare issues I have such as texture, redness and fine lines.
I do still plan to test out other skincare items. Obviously, it’s my job. But I’ll be incorporating them with my already stable skincare routine and that way I’ll be able to keep you posted on what’s making a difference, what isn’t and what makes me break out.
where to buy
Emme Diane Skincare can be purchased on the website. Even if you’re also oily and acne-prone I don’t recommend running for the website and purchasing all of the products I have here. First you need to go to the Emme Diane consultation page and fill out the questionnaire. What works for me may need to be tweaked for you. There are too many factors to consider and the only way you’ll get the right routine is to do the consult.
I hope you found this post informative and let me know if you’ve decided to use the Emme Diane products. Please share your thoughts and results in the comments!

Thank you for the before and after photo’s. It’s hard to do – can’t stand taking pictures of myself even with makeup and I’m not even a blogger. But it truly makes a difference to those who really need it.

It’s good to hear from a reader that the B&A is important, it gives the confidence to post them more often! Honestly even for myself I’m glad I took that before photo because before I compared the two I didn’t think anything was different. I knew my skin was bad but I didn’t realize HOW bad until I looked at the after pic. I’m continuing on with this line and while I’ll still try out new products to review Emme Diane will stay my core skincare routine. I’m just so impressed with her and her products!
