When this week’s Makeup Wars topic of “this winter’s must-have product that you’ve been loving” came up the first product that came to mind was the HUDA Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation. Because it’s almost always completely sold out, I’d say many others would agree with me.
what is it
HUDA Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation is a medium-to-full coverage foundation that is available in 30 shades for all skin types. It’s listed as having multiple finishes – satin, matte and radiant – which I don’t quite understand, but whatever. For me I wear it matte and maybe it’s able to lean any of the three ways depending on skin type and the primer used. The foundation is touted as being able to “visibly conceal blemishes and imperfections, for a filter-like finish”.
#FauxFilter is basically the new foundation I’ve been looking for. I’ve had it for awhile now and have been testing it like crazy. The coverage is on point and surprisingly it does better with the beautyblender over my usual application choice, which is the Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush, for making a foundation go full coverage. Because using a damp beautyblender tends to take away a bit of the coverage factor of a foundation I either add a little more foundation on top of my cheeks (I have redness from acne scarring) or I make sure to use a full coverage concealer that day and blend a little lower. Generally for that I opt for Tarte Shape Tape or Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Full-Coverage Concealer.
Could it be?! A foundation that I like more than Estee Lauder Double Wear?! They both provide ample coverage (click here to see how I apply Estee Lauder Double Wear) and #FauxFilter feels lighter on the skin than Double Wear. #FauxFilter actually seems to play well with every single primer I’ve put it up against, though it does work best with Too Faced Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Perfecting Primer.
However, there are some cons. (1) I get shinier quicker with #FauxFilter. It’s easy to blot away and TBH I’ll deal with it since it looks a lot less heavy on my skin vs. ELDW. However I’m not sure how it’ll do in the Summer months when it’s hot and makeup tends to melt. Which brings me to (2) #FauxFilter doesn’t wear like iron like ELDW. When I wear ELDW I can rub at my face and it doesn’t budge. It’s literal stay-all-day.
I think HUDA Beauty #FauxFilter will work best with oily-to-normal skin types. If you have skin that leans more toward dry you’d probably still be able to use this if you moisturize well and find a good primer. My primer leans matte so you’d want to pick something a little more hydrating/luminous. I personally can’t recommend which hydrating primer would work best with #FauxFilter, because I haven’t tested things, but if you want to read a review from a fellow blogger who is no BS and also has dry skin check out this one from Phyrra.
