Butter London + PANTONE Color of the Year Makeup & Nail Polish Collection

Purple has never really been my thing past elementary school. I remember in 5th or 6th grade the Sweet Valley Twin books being what everyone was into and there was a popular group of girls in the book called The Unicorn Club. Their color was purple and of course every girl that was into those books thought they were also a member therefore had to wear purple every single day like the girls did in the books. Like I said, since then I’ve never really been into purples… until Pantone announced the 2018 Color of the Year as Ultra-Violet and I saw the collection from Butter London.

what is it

For a couple years Butter London has been teaming up with Pantone to release beauty and nail products suited for the color of the year. This year the entire collection is absolutely breathtaking to look at. While I know I’ll never be one to wear vibrant purple tones on my lips I know that quite a few people are. What makes this collection even better is that there is something for both of us. From wearable to funky, Butter London x Pantone 2018 has it all!

Ultra Violet Glazen Eye Gloss ($24.00). I’ve been wanting to try out this formula for awhile, ever since it launched! It’s said to be lightweight, crease-resistant and long-wearing. Ultra Violet should be buildable to an intense metallic purple. I was impressed with the pigment and intensity within one swipe. If you do want to layer it (whether with a shadow or another coat of the gloss) I recommend waiting for the first coat to dry (it dries quickly so work fast). The texture is gel-like and you need very little to coat your eye. You can dab into the pot, pick up enough product to use and the pot still looks untouched. This eye gloss applied evenly (I used a patting motion with my pinky finger) and lasted all day long.

LIPPY Liquid Lipstick ($18.00). Three shades are available within this line in Canyon Rose (rosy nude cream), Wild Orchid (vibrant orchid cream) and Ultra Violet (violet cream). These lip colors are enriched with shea butter and vitamin E making them comfortable to wear. I found the shades to carry a nice pigment that applied evenly. They’re touted as being long-wearing but I found that if I ate a meal they disappeared. If you’re just hanging out the color sticks without fading. As a “lipstick and gloss in one” my favorite is Canyon Rose. It’s the perfect shade to wear daily and quick to reapply.

Lip Gloss ($20.00). Three shades are available within this line in Mystic (shimmering lilac), Electric (shimmering orchid) and Ultra Violet (violet). The glosses are said to offer a brilliant shine with a plumping, anti-sagging, anti-aging effect. I found the glosses to be semi-sheer with the look of plumping since they were moisturizing. Definitely glossy and fun to layer. They lasted for a few hours unless I ate or drank in which case they needed reapplied.

Six nail lacquer shades are released in this collection in Misty Lilac (soft lilac grey shimmer), Hydrangea (lavender cream), Iced Lavender (metallic cool lavender), Mauvelous (mauve cream), Ultra Violet (violet cream) and Purple Reign (metallic purple).

These 6 shades are gorgeous representations of the Pantone Color of the Year Ultra Violet family. My personal favorites are Misty Lilac, Mauvelous and Ultra Violet – but that is just based on personal shade preference. All of them performed well and were opaque in 2 coats.
