When I was a kid all I wanted was brighter hair. Mine has always been brown with some random natural highlights through it, but my mom was a blondie so of course, I wanted to be a blondie too. Even back then (it was the 80’s, y’all! WOOO!) to do something like this, especially on a kid, you used SunIn Hair Lightener. Now that I’m a parent to a daughter with dark blonde hair who wants it to be lighter I’m excited to share my affordable DIY hair highlighting at-home knowledge with her!

SunIn Hair Lightener – affordable DIY highlights at home for kids, women & men – before & after #hair
SunIn is an alcohol-free, heat-activated hair lightener that has been around since the 70’s. Because it’s not just activated by sunlight it can be used year-round as a fast and easy hair lightening treatment – just add blow dryer! It’s suitable for hair colors from blonde to medium-brown.
My favorite thing about SunIn is that it’s simple, quick and easy to use. You just spray and either let your kid go play in the sun or hit their strands with a blow dryer. Once the heat hits the formula the natural highlights in your hair get a boost as well as an extra dose of shine. It’s basically going to do the same thing the sun will do to your hair over time just quicker and, if you want, without the sun ever even being involved. The formula also conditions as it lightens which is a lifesaver for me because I usually have to use a spray conditioner to get through my daughters thick strands anyway. This is two birds, one stone for us!

Very nice article, One of my friend used SunIn for Highlighting, and now she is very happy to do this, But I love Dark Brown hair with Caramel Highlights Underneath
I absolutely love how much it brought out the brightness of your daughter’s hair without any brassy. It’s gorgeous and your daughter has gorgeous hair. I sprayed it on my son, but he has dark – almost black hair. It lightened it some, but really the parts where he had blond when he was baby was what really became prominent. I liked how it lightened mine just right and now that my purple is completely washed from my hair, I love seeing the reddish brown and light brown highlights through out.
I love how many different ways there are to use this product! I’m totally jealous of my daughters hair. I got older and my hair thinned dramatically. At least I have hers to play with now lol
I used SunIn once in the 80s *shudders*. In one afternoon, I went from dark blonde to orange, no highlights – an all over slightly lighter than carrot color, which happened to perfectly match the top I was wearing. Must have been user error, judging by the beauty of your daughter’s locks,,,but for me,,,never again! My hair color is now in the expert hands of a colorist now – after many mishaps (even at salons).
Some people that have used it back in the day have mentioned this! I’m wondering if there was a formula change? I didn’t personally have that issue in the 80’s but we may have different tones of natural highlights in our hair. My hair usually pulls warm (so when I go blonde we always have to use something like the Wella Beige line).
Wow your daughters hair looks great and still natural. I would love to try this on my daughters dirty blonde hair!

SunIn brings back so many good memories of sitting on a beach chair in my backyard with a boom box. Her results are beautiful.
Sun-in is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to highlight your hair. It would be really easy to get Sun-in with a paypal gift card. The natural glow really shows.
My ex father-in-law overused this and his gray hair turned a very unattractive shade but your daughter’s hair is just gorgeous. She is probably thrilled that you did this on her.

Flashback from the past! I like you daughter’s hair before and after. I can see the transformative effect
I would have died for the SunIn Hair Lightener when I was in my teens. My naturally blonde hair got darker in my teens and became a wheat germ shade. I was a frequent SunIn user, but back then, it did brighten but it didn’t lighten. Great that they have a choice now!

I totally remember using Sun In during the summer! My hair is too dark for it now, but I loved spraying my hair with it, turning on my music, and sitting out in the yard.
I didn’t even know that Sun In is still a thing! I totally remember using this in the summer when I was a teen! 🙂
