NARS Duo Eyeshadow & Velvet Eyeliner Swatches + Review // Man Ray Holiday 2017

The year isn’t over but can we please just give an award to NARS for best packaging? The upcoming NARS x Man Ray Collection for Holiday 2017 is all levels of gorgeous, stunning, out-of-this-freaking-world… it’s just all the good adjectives. Over the next few days I’ll also be sharing the cheek products, lip products and gifting collection, but for today we’re focusing on the Duo Eyeshadows ($36.00 each) and the Velvet Eyeliners ($24.00 each).

There will be two NARS x Man Ray Duo Eyeshadow shades available in Montparnasse and Debauched. These Duo Eyeshadows are described as “modern, unique, unexpected color combinations (to) layer on endless effects”.

Montparnasse
L – Shimmering Gold, R – Iridescent Orchid

Debauched
L – Black Violet, R – Smoky Charcoal with Red Shimmer

There will be two NARS x Man Ray Velvet Eyeliners available in Nagoya (Violet) and Santiago (Chocolate Brown). Velvet Eyeliners are described as a “creamy formula, ideal for blending, smudging and intensifying eyes”.

I was impressed with the pigment of the NARS x Man Ray Duo Eyeshadows. I had thought that Debauched in particular would be dry but found that even though it felt a little chalky it performed well on the eye without skipping. It blended just as nicely as the left side and I had no issues with fading or creasing when worn with a primer. Of the two Duos Montparnasse is my favorite. There is a lot you can do with the shades either by wearing them alone or together. I did notice that if you put the right side over-top of the left side the golden color seems to eat up the pigment of the orchid side (which you can see in the one eye look below) – it’s just a little strong. I recommend if you’re going to wear the gold all over the lid leave it off of the part of the eye that you’d want the orchid color. I also had no issue with fading or creasing when worn with an eyeshadow primer.

The NARS x Man Ray Velvet Eyeliners are stunning and truly do feel creamy. They blend out and smudge easily but don’t migrate off the eye throughout the day. I wore these both on the top lip and smudged under the lower lash line with no problems. They will not stay in your waterline for more than 30 minutes but I find them to be fabulous bases to intensify and under the eye color or to smudge out on their own as a liner over a beige colored shadow. A big trend I’m seeing lately is a simple eye with matte tan and beige shades with a strike of bold liner smudged at the lash line. Nagoya would be stunning for that and Santiago is perfect for every day. Santiago in particular looks gorgeous when worn under the orchid shade of Montparnasse.
