I’m hard to please when it comes to liquid eye liner. TBH I’m really not that good at it so when it comes to what I’m looking for I need completely idiot-proof. I like a particular applicator, it has to be even without having to put in the work, no skipping… okay so basically it needs to be easy and perfect like a fictitious Stepford Wife (that sounded bad). IT Cosmetics Superhero Liner ($24.000 // ULTA Beauty) landed on my doorstep recently and at first glance checked every single one of the boxes… I began to wear it immediately…. here’s what happened.
what is it
IT Cosmetics Superhero Liner is said to “give your eyes Superhero powers and instant definition in one simple stroke. Whether you want to create thin, thick or cat-eye strokes, this innovative liner pen makes it easier than ever – and features a unique IT Cosmetics Heavenly Skin brush hair tip that literally does the work for you! Unlike typical felt-tip liners, this luxurious brush hair tip won’t fray and applies your liner with effortless precision.”.
What sets this eye liner apart from the rest is the proprietary Elastic Stretch No-Skip Technology and a Triple Black Pigment Complex which is said to create a super saturated, super black, super flawless line that won’t budge or smudge. The lash-enhancing superpower ingredients peptides, collagen, biotin, keratin and kaolin clay are also included in the formula.
Results observed in a clinical study say that this liner is 24H Waterproof.
I found it incredibly easy to make a wing with this liner. Even with my past favorite (yes, I said past) Kat Von D Tattoo liner I really had to be careful with shaking the tube up frequently to keep the same saturation of black pigment going. It wasn’t a pain and was something I was accustomed to. With the IT Cosmetics Superhero I shook it up ONE TIME and was able to line both of my eyes (and I’m slow as molasses with liquid liner) without shaking again. The color was completely even.
Perhaps my favorite part about this liner is how quickly it dries down and goes matte. It’s hard to tell in my hand swatch because it doesn’t appear matte but if you scroll down to the eye look you’ll be able to see how dark and glorious it turns out.
Wear time was all day and I had to work at removing it. It wasn’t difficult and I didn’t have to scrub, but it didn’t even crack under my Micellar Water and a cotton pad. Usually the whole thing won’t disappear, but it’ll crack and remove at spots until I can get at it with eye makeup remover. Superhero held on until I went in with the actual eye makeup remover at which point it was easy to take off.
Below I swatched at varying levels of thickness by holding it straight up-and-down to slanted. The swatches are done without primer.
I began with a layer of Urban Decay Primer Potion. Then from the Superhero Eyeshadow Palette put Confidence all over the lid up to the brow. From the same palette I took Aura on a flat paddle eyeshadow brush and pressed it all over the lid. I took the same shade with a crease brush and blended that through the crease and up. I also smudged Aura under the lower lash line. I used Magical to blend out the crease a bit and Limitless to highlight under the brow bone. The bottom eyeliner is Jouer Matte Black Slim Creme Eyeliner. Eyebrows are all Benefit Cosmetics – I used Benefit Gimme Brow in 03, Precisely My Brow in 03 and 3D Browtones in 02.
