For months they’ve been talked about and now they’re finally here! The MAC Girls Collection features six “personality palettes” that feature eye shadows and highlighters in expressive colors and packaging to show off the “power and presence of your personality”. The six palettes are named A Rockin’ Rebel, Mischief Minx, Fashion Fanatic, Basic Bitch, Prissy Princess and Power Hungry.
In this post I’ll be featuring Mischief Minx ($39.50 // ULTA Beauty). This palette is loaded up with nine shades of warm, gold and bronze tones as well as a ton of well-placed attitude.
V Frisky (muted gold, foil), Natural Tease (bright yellow gold frost, foil), She-Nanigans (reddish copper frost, foil), Flaming Femme (darkened clay red, creamy matte), Schemer (dark brown, creamy matte), Mischief Minx (bright orange frost, satin shine), Totally Trouble (blackened purple, creamy matte), Been There, Done That (darkened brown w/ gold pearl, satin shine), Stride Of Pride (golden rose highlighter, opalescent)
I likely would’ve chosen Mischief Minx first (even if MAC wouldn’t have sent it over for review consideration) because of the leopard packaging (loving leopard all the things) as well as the shade selection inside. It’s all usually what I go for. Basic Bitch would’ve been a close second for the name alone (bonus that I also love the shades in there!). That being said I feel like I can connect a little bit to each and every one of the statements these palettes are trying to put across. We’re all a little of everything in our own unique way.
The packaging of Mischief Minx is my everything, mostly because it’s leopard and you can basically put anything in a leopard print and I’m going to love it to death. It’s long, slim and boasts a good sized mirror at the interior.
When I read the paperwork that came with the palette right off I noticed a difference in how MAC was describing the finishes of their eyeshadows. Creamy matte instead of matte… satin shine instead of satin…. The wording said to me that I could expect an improvement in formula (I’m generally not a fan of their regular mattes). Personally I did notice a major improvement in the mattes. They’re a lot easier to apply, a lot more even and a lot more pigmented without the help of having to use Fix+ and prayers.
All of the shades below are swatched with my finger on bare skin (dry, no primer):
I found that the shades performed well across the board. I did find myself using three of the shades – Natural Tease, V Frisky and She-nanigans – wet to amp up the metallic aspect (see swatches below). There’s a lot you can do with this palette and I was impressed that I can do bold looks as well as my usual every day type of look (bronze-y!). The biggest con (IMO, and this won’t be a con for everyone) is that I had to dig into another palette to do a brow highlight. There isn’t any type of cream colored satin or matte shade to help blend out the crease or under the brow bone.
For the halo eye look below I used MAC Painterly Pro Longwear Paint Pot as a primer/base. Next I went in with a MAC 219 Pencil Brush and sketched out the inner and outer corners using Flaming Femme. Using that same brush I also dragged this color through my crease.
At the center of the lid I tried layering a few of the foil shades (She-nanigans and Natural Tease) dry before deciding I needed to get on the “wet your brush” boat and do that. I dampened my brush a bit and applied V Frisky on top of the other shades to really make the metallic pop. For this I used the MAC 239 Brush.
Next using the MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush I took a bit more of Flaming Femme and built up the crease color. After that I used the same brush to lightly blend Flaming Femme into the center metallic color. Using the same MAC 219 from before I added a bit of Mischief Minx to my lower lash line and then a bit more of Flaming Femme to the outer corner of the lower lash line.
To blend out the brow bone and accent the crease a bit I dove into my MAC In the Flesh Palette and used the shade Elemental.
For my brows I used Benefit Gimme Brow in 03, Precisely My Brow in 03 and 3D Browtones in 02. I also used High Brow right under my brow line and blended it out (check out my Benefit Brow post here). My bottom waterline eye liner is Clinique Black Skinny Stick and my mascara is IT Cosmetics Superhero.

Love the colors in this palette! They are so neutral and easy to wear, with a couple bolder shades for good measure.
I love the shimmer on these colors!

I’m not usually a fan of red eyeshadow shades since I’m trying to get rid of the red on my eyelids from blepharitis, but I absolutely love the eye look you created with this new palette. So pretty!

Thank you!!! My lids are thin so I see little veins in them =( That’s why I use Painterly. If I know it’s a humid day I layer that on top of UDPP. Or Benefit Air Patrol to hide things.
These look like your colors! Love them on you!

These new palettes are the first from MAC that have made me excited to shop. I love the look you did and would love to copy that exactly. I’m glad they’ve done some improvements in their shadows and I am looking forward to shopping.
