Why can’t foundations just speak to me and let me know if they’re going to work on my oily skin or not?! Why can’t I just be happy when I find a foundation that’s completely kick butt and stay where I’m at? Because things like the Natasha Denona Foundation X ($45.00 // Sephora) come out and then I get in my head that maybe this one will be even better.
what is it
Natasha Denona Foundation X is a cruelty-free foundation that is said to be full-coverage with a radiant finish and for all skin types. It’s formulated with “special ingredients to help balance the t-zone area and absorb excess oils on the skin”. The finished look is meant to never look dry, cakey or thick.
There are 11 shades currently available and the one that matched up the closest to my current skin tone is 42 (medium-yellow undertone). I do pull neutral so I can go either way when it comes to foundation (it just depends on the formula and brand) but I did find that this shade was a bit too yellow for me. I think the 40 would be too light and the 45 too dark so I’m not sure if switching for another shade would even work out for me. Hopefully more shades are available in the future.
how to apply
SHAKE WELL. Do this with the cap on. I made the mistake of doing it without the cap on and small spots of foundation flew everywhere. I tried the foundation with several of my fave tools – the Clarisonic Foundation Brush, the Sigma 3DHD Kabuki Brush and a beautyblender. The tool of the three that gave me the best coverage was the Sigma 3DHD Kabuki, though all did work well.
I found that in one pass this wasn’t full coverage enough for me so I had to do a second layer of foundation. This was surprising because generally when I use that Sigma brush foundations apply at their fullest coverage level in one pass. Being that the Natasha Denona Foundation X formula is said to be full-coverage I was surprised I had to build it.
review
There aren’t a lot of shades in this line (as of this post there are 11), which is unfortunate. I found the finish to be much more matte than radiant and TBH I don’t think it would work well on someone with any dryness to their skin. I personally haven’t tried it on anyone with dry skin, but just based off of my experience with foundations this doesn’t appear to be one that those with mostly dry or dry skin would like. Even if you have oily skin I’d recommend prepping your skin with a good moisturizer before you apply your primer followed by this foundation.
On me, the Natasha Denona Foundation X applied evenly, smoothly and very matte. Wear time was really good. I got shiny just around the nose and chin area after about 2 hours but it never got more than a bit. Oddly my forehead never got shiny at all! This is definitely a first for me and I think if you have oily skin and like to be as matte as possible then you should consider giving this a go.
You can buy Natasha Denona Foundation X now at Sephora, Beautylish and natashadenona.com.

It’s definitely good for oily skin! Make sure you still moisturize before using it, though. It REALLY picks up on dryness!
It’s a shame that this might not work well for dry skin; I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but the formula looks very thin and like it would make dry patches look more pronounced. Plus, the undertones of these look to be very very yellow. Thanks for the review!

You’re welcome! It pulled very yellow on me, more so than I anticipated. It looked and felt great on, though!
