When my nails are short I always like to opt for a light color. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish and Clear Top Coat so I decided to pick the duo up on one of my last trips to the store. Because of my affinity for light shades with short nails I decided on the color Pre-Show Jitters.
The Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish is said to give you “gel-like wear and shine with this easy two-step system that keeps your polish in place for up to 14 days”. The directions tell you to layer on two coats of the nail polish (no base coat required) and finish it off with a high-gloss top coat.
Pre-Show Jitters is described as being an “alabaster white”. It’s definitely a white, but cool with light pink undertones. The formula of this shade is very sheer, and I tried it several different ways. I needed three coats to make it mostly even and opaque but when I look at my nails I see that it’s a bit uneven and sheer in spots.
I barely get 5 days of wear from this shade before chipping becomes majorly noticeable. I’ve tried it as directed, with a base coat and even after giving myself a full on manicure (thinking my nails just suck for polish). Three times, same results. I adore the color but not the application or wear-time. I do plan on purchasing another shade to see if it’s a formula thing or a shade thing.
That being said I LOVE the Top Coat. It’s super glossy and dries fast, two of the major points I look for when purchasing a clear nail polish top coat.
Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish retails for $11.50 and is available now at ULTA Beauty, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Target and drugstores nationwide. It is made in the USA and is DBP-free, toulene-free and formaldehyde-free.
While pretty the wear would drive me crazy. It’s time consuming to do your nails so you want them to last!
