L’Oreal Infallible Paints Eyeshadow Swatches, Review + Application Tips

For a lot of people applying makeup daily is more than just about coverage and enhancement… it’s about the creativity. If you love makeup, even if you’re not a PRO MUA, you are still likely to have a random day or two where you want to do something fun. One of my favorite features to be creative with and really make stand out are my eyes. With the launch of the L’Oreal Infallible Paints Eyeshadow ($8.99 // ULTA Beauty) it’s looking like that might be easier than ever to do!

L’Oreal Infallible Paints Eyeshadow is available in 12 dual-ended shades which are (swatched L-R in the pic below):

• 302 Shady Violet
• 304 Navy Yard
• 306 BRB Blue
• 308 Aqua Aura
• 309 Mint Detox
• 310 Army Camo
• 312 Jet Set Blond
• 314 Sunset Fire
• 316 Cool Ivory
• 318 Nude Fishnet
• 320 Brown Sugar

The paints are liquid cream eye shadow duos that are said to be able to be able to be layered to customize endless eye looks. Pigment is listed as being intense with color that doesn’t fade all day long. For most of the duos there is a creamy matte side and a metallic shimmer side (though there are a few where both sides have a shimmer). The applicator is a sponge, doe-foot.

Application Tips

• I wouldn’t use the applicator to apply/blend. The best way I’ve found to apply and wear these (whether you’re going to wear them alone or with a shadow on top) is by dotting the color on your lid and patting out with a small shading brush (I used the Real Techniques Shader Brush, IT Cosmetics Snudger Brush #124 and the Morphe M326 Pro Precision Smudger) and pressing the color into the lid.
• This same type of brush is also awesome for blending the shades together but be careful when using a more vivid shade (like TEAL) because there will be some color transfer.
• After you dot the color on do not open your eye or you will have transfer. Keep it shut while you put the wand back in the container, while you grab your brush, whatever. Don’t take up a whole lot of time, though, because you’ll want to press the shade in quickly to allow it to set where you need it to.
• When you’re doing the final blend of shades do it a little more aggressively than the first pass.

Wear Time

Wear time was fantastic. I did two looks using three shades in each look – my favorite one being with Brown Sugar, Nude Fishnet and Cool Ivory. In my experience the products lasted the entire day (10am – 10pm) without fading or creasing and I did NOT need a secondary primer underneath these shadows to make that happen. I’m excited to try these out when it’s Summer and my lids like to crease no matter what I do. Hopefully these will be the ticket to not melt and if so can we get a face primer that works the same way?! Wouldn’t that be fantastic?!

Final Thoughts

At first pass, particularly with the darker shades, the coverage was semi-sheer but this was easily built up with another pass of color. I love these as a base and they do blend nicely together for a cream product, and they set rather quickly. For me, I much prefer to use one as an all over color as an eyeshadow base for my powder shadows. It’s a lot less “involved” with the blending and shading but still amps up my eye look and holds the color without the creasing – all day long. When you first apply a few of the lighter metallic shades, before you blend them out, you might think them to be a little chunky but once you work your magic they’ll set and be gorgeous!
