For this year I’ve been making a major effort to test out and include more drugstore brands on Blushing Noir. This is because drugstore brands really impressed me in 2016 so 2017 will be spent exploring them more. Nuance Salma Hayek is a brand that I’ve tried before but that had completely escaped me recently with all of the attention the more well known brands are receiving. I’m excited to share a few of the products with you – some hits and some misses.

Nuance Flawless Finish Blur Perfection Primer ($12.99). The hunt for a drugstore primer is on. Described as a translucent matte this primer is said to reduce the appearance of redness and improve the evenness of skin for a healthy-looking, radiant matte finish. It’s also said to help blur imperfections and diminish the appearance of fine lines and fine pores. It’s paraben and fragrance free.
I found that a small dab coated my face well (starting at my t-zone and blending outward) and allowed my makeup to apply flawlessly over-top. Throughout the day I did get oily but I do so with all primers. My current high-end favorite is the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Matte Finish and while I think the Nuance Flawless will work well for someone less oily it just didn’t help keep me matte, and that’s a major thing I look for.

Nuance Flawless Finish Illuminating Blush & Bronzer Duo ($12.99). Three shades are available but shown here is the shade Coral Glow 555. This is mostly another hit for me (my gripe is minor). “Argan oil soothes skin and helps restore moisture as it protects against free radicals. Cheekbones are defined and highlighted to perfection with this ultra-fine, smooth color finish that works beautifully on all skin. No fragrance. Not tested on animals”.
Super pigmented, smooth and easy to apply/blend out. The coral shade is TDF and perfection for my skin tone. The only thing I didn’t like is that I use a big-ish brush for bronzer and it’s not the space I’m used to getting into, so a bit of the blush gets on my bronzer brush. When you use it you just have to be careful. Other than that, it’s a win!

Nuance Long Lasting Eyeliner Pencil ($9.99). There only appears to be this one shade which is Volcanic Black. It’s a dark black with a matte finish. “Calming Chamomile has a fresh effect on skin with its moisturizing properties. The thin tip allows for precise application of long-lasting color that perfectly defines eyes throughout the day. Safe for even the most sensitive eyes”.
This is a BIG hit for me because it applied nicely, evenly and lasted all day…. even in my waterline. Well, very minor fading in my waterline but it was still visible and didn’t migrate. Which is more than I can say for a lot of high-end liners. I wish they made more colors because I’d buy them all!

Nuance Endless Eye Effects Shadow Collection ($13.99). I have two shades here in Neutral Expressions and Smoke Signals. The description from Neutral Expressions states “Argan oil soothes skin and helps restore moisture as it protects against free radicals. Color blends flawlessly-wet or dry-with this versatile shadow collection that offers matte, frost and shimmering finishes resulting in illuminating eye effects. No parabens. No fragrance. Not tested on animals”.

Neutral Expressions is a collection of six warm-toned eyeshadow shades for the perfect day time eye or to pair up with a bold lip color. It was by far my favorite of the two palettes. Each shade was nicely pigmented, felt amazing and wore very well. A+ across the board.

Smoke Signals is a collection of six cool-toned eyeshadow shades to make the perfect date night smoky eye.

While that center taupe shade hits all the high notes for me I wasn’t so in love with the rest. The black and navy weren’t very pigmented, however they were even upon application and blended nicely. The light glittery taupe was way too glittery to the point of over-kill. The other two shades were okay but nothing amazing that would save the entire palette. I did use it for my FOTD look below, which I liked, but the end result wasn’t what I had in my head.

Nuance True Color Moisture Rich Lipstick ($9.99). It appears 9 shades are available and Terra Cotta is shown here. “Smoothing and line-filling formula leaves lips feeling moisturized and refreshed, with infused Peppermint Oil”.
Big win! Terra Cotta is a rosy mauve shade that is heavily pigmented in one swipe. The formula wears well and feels amazing. My favorite way to wear it is to blend the shade out with my finger and then use a pinky-beige liner (shown in the FOTD below) to sharpen the edges. Wear time was around 3-4 hours if I wasn’t eating and drinking.

Nuance True Color Plumping Liquid Lipstick ($9.99). Six shades are available and the one shown here is in Mulled Wine, which is a bright, light wine color. “Infused with Green Tea extract, a powerful antioxidant, leaves lips looking plump with a shiny finish and gorgeous, vibrant color”.
Two coats gives a beautiful, juicy wine stain effect that sits comfortably on the lips. The result is glossy, not sticky and comfortable to wear. More importantly, the wear time is AWESOME. Mulled Wine not only stayed on my lips all day throughout eating and drinking but even after eating my lips still felt moisturized and glossy. I’m blown away and need all of the other shades ASAP.
