Before this week I’ve never tried one of those paddle type makeup brushes. As a blogger I was intrigued by them, but didn’t really think it would work for me and also didn’t want to shell out the $$ for a tool that might not work when I already have a favorite foundation brush.
As time went on more of these brushes have hit the market and are a lot more affordable – some even more than 50% cheaper than others. One of which is the CAILYN O! WOW Brush ($32.00 // CAILYN Cosmetics).

The CAILYN O! WOW Brush is said to feature “velvet-like bristles and densely packed ultra fine fibers, this amazing brush is made to ensure an airbrushed effect, with an immaculate streak-free touch. This brush features a dome, angular shaped surface that is beautifully crafted to blend foundation, powder, cream, moisturizer and primers seamlessly into your skin. The pointed tip is designed to fit perfectly underneath the hollows of the eye, and helps contour your facial features. The sturdy, self-standing handle with a slip off cap prevents bristles from germs, dirt and dusts, making this makeup tool the ultimate travel companion”.

I tried the O! WOW Brush out with three of my favorite foundations – Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus, L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover and Estee Lauder Double Wear. Each has a slightly different consistency and I thought that would be perfect to see how the O! WOW Brush stands up against different formulas.
In trying out the three foundations I found that the O! WOW Brush worked with ALL of them, but particularly so with the Wet n’ Wild. It’s much more fluid than the other two and while all blended well this one went a lot more quickly and felt more smooth as I spread it all out. Being that all of these foundations work best with oily skin it’s important to note that when you apply them (with ANY brush) you should be working in sections since they tend to dry down quickly.
The O! WOW brush impressed me because it had the ability to really spread the product out and in turn I was using less of it on my skin while still achieving the same level of coverage. At no point did my foundation apply streaky to where I needed to re-buff, even when the O! WOW brush was definitely in need of some cleaning.

The shape of the brush handle is angled making it very easy to hold and use, while the brush head is tapered/dome-like to really help you get into all of the areas of your face.
To clean the O! WOW Brush CAILYN recommends soaking the brush head in CAILYN Pure Ease Brush Cleaner for 3-5 minutes and rinse it off with warm water and let it air dry. I personally used a bit of Dawn dish soap (which is what I usually use to clean my brushes) and then air dry.
I tried to click on “Ingredients” on the website to find out what type of bristles are used but it just kept taking me back to the main page. All that’s noted about the bristles is that they’re “velvet-like bristles and densely packed ultra fine fibers”. The O! Wow Double Brush is listed as having a mix of synthetic and natural bristles.

Did the CAILYN O! WOW Brush replace the Sigma 3DHD Kabuki as my favorite foundation brush? YES. It absolutely did!
