TBH I’m really over the highlighting trend. By that I mean I’m over the OVER-highlighting trend. I actually don’t see it too much IRL but on blogs and YouTube I’m like staahhhppppppppppp. Half of your face should not look like it has an orb around it. Subtle is chic.
Anywayyyy I do have favorites in terms of highlighting. This week for Makeup Wars we’re talking about our favorite cream highlighters or contour. I decided in this post I’m sharing BOTH and even sharing faves from the drugstore as well as the department stores.
Highlighters
My current drugstore favorite is more of a liquid and is the Maybelline Face Studio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter ($9.99 // ULTA Beauty). These can be built up so they can be as sheer or orb-like as you need them to be. My favorite shade is 100. It’s lightly illuminating and the light shimmer just glows rather than sparkles.
Another product I’m loving to highlight with is the Maybelline Brow Precise Perfecting Highlighter ($7.99 // ULTA Beauty). Now, this isn’t technically a cream or a liquid, but it’s creamy and the shape of it is so perfect for getting right up to and under the brow without messing with finding the perfect brush. It’s easy to blend out and I love how precise I can get with it. A major plus is that you can’t really tell it’s there after it’s on, but it makes you brow look sharp.
My favorite cream highlighter on the luxury end should come as no surprise…. BECCA Champagne Pop Poured ($38.00 // Sephora). It’s the perfect shade for my skintone and is versitile. I love using the BECCA Poured Highlighters as eyeshadow bases! (swatches, review here)
Contour
In terms of drugstore contour, cream wise the only thing I can think of that I’ve tried is the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette ($24.99 // ULTA Beauty). It’s nice because there’s a variety of shades so that regardless of how pale you are or how tan you get you can get something to work for you. I generally don’t use a cream contour so it’s hard to say if there’s anything else out there that would be better, but I definitely like this palette.
On the luxury end mine lives in a palette. The Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Face Palette ($45.00 // Sephora). Mine is in shade 20 and it’s for light skin tones. I love it because it’s subtle, perfect for my skin tone and blends well. Plus every thing you need is in it – highlight, blush, contour.
What is your favorite cream highlight, contour or bronzing product? I’d love some drugstore ideas so I can broaden my palette for 2017!
