When your “goals” are all about flawless finish know that it’s going to take more than just the perfect foundation. You’ve got to make sure you’re concealing and blurring with the right products and brushes. Recently Kat Von D brought out some newness including Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème ($26.00 // Sephora), Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder ($30.00 // Sephora) and even some makeup brushes. Keep reading to check out my thoughts on the formulas as well as how I’m applying them!
Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème ($26.00 // Sephora). This concealer is said to have full-coverage, 24-hour wear and a matte finish. I’m oily, things crease… those three claims are basically my dream in a makeup product. I found that the concealer applied easily to the desired areas and I love the sponge, tapered-tip applicator for precision placement. Generally I use a beautyblender to blend out concealer but with this one I used the corresponding Kat Von D Lock-It Edge Concealer Brush (shown below) in downward strokes to blend out.
For product placement I drew a slim line from the area of the inner-corner of my eye and downward then dotted the product in a v-shape under my eye. I baked my under-eye area (as I usually do to prevent creasing) using a damp beautyblender and the Kat Von D Lock-It Translucent Setting Powder (shown below). After letting that set a bit I brushed it away with the Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder Brush (show below). Using this method the concealer stayed put without creasing or fading away for 12-hours. I wish I could put 24-hour wear to the test but those types of days are well behind me. 😉
The shades I was sent were both too light for me. It’s likely when I did the survey through Influenster it was before Summer and then once I was chosen for this VoxBox and the product arrived I was a bit tan. I wore L5 Neutral for testing purposes and believe it’d be perfect for me in the Fall/Winter. The brand definitely isn’t lacking with shade selection, though, as you have 21 to choose from.
Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder ($30.00 // Sephora). This setting powder is said to be a “weightless translucent loose powder, formulated with Micro-Blurring Technology™, to set and perfect for a flawless, locked-in finish. “. I’m not going to lie, I was nervous for this one. It has a bit of a yellow tone to it and while I run neutral I tend to prefer a more pink tone. Also, my other translucent setting powders are white so the difference is daunting.
When you apply this powder, whether it be for baking or setting, you won’t notice a yellow tinge at all and it truly does apply translucently. It kept me matte all day long and was fabulous for baking. I was particularly impressed because it didn’t ball up at all when I used my damp beauty blender to bake my under-eye area. Before this setting powder I used to sing the praises of the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder, but because that one balls up a bit and this one doesn’t – Kat Von D is now my #1 pick.
Kat Von D Lock-It Edge Concealer Brush ($24.00 // Sephora). This brush is perfect for blending and applying concealer. The shape really gets all around every part of the eye and evenly distributes and blends the product out. The bristles are soft so that it doesn’t hurt to use yet the bristles are dense enough to get the coverage I’m going for.
Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder Brush ($38.00 // Sephora). This is a loose powder blush for “setting and perfecting the entire face”. I use the beautyblender to back and then pick this brush up to dust off the access. The soft bristles and dome shape are perfect for getting my under eye area and sweeping anything leftover away.

They’re nice. Not for me — have too many concealers at the moment.
But they do sound nice!

I’m dying to try the concealer. I need to check Phyrra’s page for the right color for me. I think it could be an HG.
