If you’ve been watching my Snapchat and Instagram you’ve already seen the MAC Soft Serve Shadows ($22.00 // Nordstrom) and you’ll know I’ve been testing them for awhile, trying out different techniques. Since there are two finishes to the shadows, satin and pearl, I wanted to make sure I test each color and formula I received with and without primers under and powder shadows on top.
The packaging is similar to that of the Paint Pots but it’s one better… the shade color is on the top of the black cap. I love this idea and it makes it so much easier to grab the color you’re looking for. Currently I keep my paint pots upside down, which works fine, but they rattle and that bugs me. Plus, when they’re flat they just lay better.
Twelve shades of the Soft Serve eyeshadow formula were released and I have four to share with you today in Best Make Up, Must Be Lust, Jealous Girl and Softened Up. The formula is bouncy and cool, but solid. It feels like it’d be a gel but it’s not… it’s creamy yet not overly so and drying to a powder finish. It actually reminds me of the Chanel Illusion D’Ombre formula.
Best Make Up
light golden highlighter, pearl
Must Be Lust
sparkling bronzey tan, pearl
Jealous Girl
mint green, satin
Softened Up
midtone warm brown, satin
MAC says that the Soft Serve Shadows are long-wearing and crease resistant. My lids are oily and I found them to only be long-wearing and crease resistant if they had a powder shadow on top to set them or an eye shadow primer underneath. The best results of these shadows are achieved when you do both primer on the bottom and a powder shadow on top. When I wore these alone they didn’t crease instantly, but it was within the hour, and that’s with both the satin and pearl finishes.
The shadows are on the sheer-to-light side when you apply them (I like to use my finger) and I love that they’re buildable.
Below the shades are swatched dry on bare skin (no primers):

I bought the shade Best Make Up, but was a little dissapointed with the sheer glitteryness (must be the pearl finish). The swatch of Softened Up looks gorgeous here, however, so I might have to check it out! 🙂

I love the collection that you are showing. Are they available outside USA?
Hi Chelsea! I’m not seeing it on the press release but usually it’ll release internationally the next month (so if this one is May it’d be intl sometime in June). MAC online chat would be able to give you a more definitive answer!
