The Urban Decay Summer 2016 Makeup Collection isn’t your average full-blown Summer line. The items in the launch are focusing more on a bare-glow. Sun kissed but lightly… butterfly kisses style. The newness includes what is arguably the worlds most beautiful highlighter shades, two bronzers (one of which has landed in HG status), a new foundation formula and a couple of new shades in eye lining. Behold the beachy perfection.
Naked Skin One & Done ($34.00 // Sephora). These are touted as being the “hybrid complexion perfector” and it is currently available in 6 shades.
One & Done features a squeeze tube with a pump dispenser and is to be used to “Instantly blur imperfections and even out skintone, and achieve gorgeous skin that appears effortlessly perfected.” Over time it’s also said to make pores appear smaller and also firm the skin. Sourced from the wu zhu yu plant, Gatuline® Radiances improve the look of radiance, tone, and texture. I can’t give a review on that part of it, but I like the sound of it! (PS I had to look up Gatuline because ???? and it’s basically “fast track smoothing”. Google it, because I loveeeee everything it does)!
This is an oil-free formula where the right brush is going to make or break your opinion. On Sephora they’re recommending the Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush and I have to agree that this type of brush is definitely the way to go when you apply this, particularly if you want to build up the coverage. A beautyblender sheers it out too much (for me, anyway) and I found it difficult to build. A dense kabuki brush is way too firm and makes the formula streak. Using your fingers to apply will also make the formula streak. I don’t personally own the UD Good Karma Brush but I have a few that are similar and I’ve found the best way to apply is by pumping a few drops on the top of the brush and dotting it all around your face. Once your dots are placed buff it out so that it’s all even. Repeat once, if desired. If you repeat any more it gives the appearance of being too much.
Below all six shades are swatched in Light, Medium Light, Medium, Medium Dark, Dark and Deep.
Beached Bronzer ($28.00 // Sephora). These are touted as being “universally wearable, luminous matte shades”. Beached Bronzer is currently available in 2 shades – Sun-Kissed and Bronzed.
Before we even get into how this bronzer performs can we just take a minute to look at that packaging?! Why can’t all packaging look like that? It’s SO SUMMER. I guess if you’re in Cali or anywhere with palm trees that packaging is just your life… but for us up North… where it’s cold AF all the time… I basically just want to stare at the packaging all day every day. The interior is laid out with palm trees too. UGH LOVE.
These bronzers are said to have a “finely milled, super-soft formula” that “applies smoothly, doesn’t streak, and creates a radiant glow that locks into place”. I’m going to go ahead and agree with all of that. While Sun-Kissed is my personal favorite for my skin tone both applied well, weren’t heavy looking and stayed the day. FYI Sun-Kissed is currently living on my vanity with all of the other holy grail items – that’s how much it can never leave me.
Sun-Kissed
Bronzed
Both bronzers are swatched below on bare skin. PSA my hands are a little darker right now than normal because I got a little crispy at a baseball game =\
Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter ($26.00 // Sephora). These are touted as being “a super-soft, long-wearing, blendable powder highlighter for strobing”. Three shades are currently available in Aura (iridescent light pink), Fireball (peach with pink shift) and Sin (champagne).
AGAIN with the beautiful packaging. Can we just take another minute….
Okay breatheeeee…. and then get ready to freak out again because these are beautiful.
Aura
Fireball
Sin
Aura and Sin are definitely more highlighter-esque for my skintone, Fireball is more fun to dust over a flat terracotta cream blush to amp it up or to use as an eyeshadow. They’re super-pigmented so use that fan brush to apply and don’t do what I did which is love it so much you can’t stop applying and then your strobe gets out of control. I actually said I wanted to smash them and roll around in the pigments forever. I’d obviously never do that, but that’s how beautiful they are. If you DID do something like that you’d probably turn into a unicorn. Just sayin’.
Can’t pick a favorite. At all. I thought Aura would be, but then Fireball is just so gorgeous… and beside the two of them Sin does look plain… but look at the swatch… I mean….
Heartless 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 // Sephora). Just one 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil was released in this collection and it is in Heartless which is described as a light frosted pink.
I’m a fan of most of the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. Most. Generally the more glittery ones don’t wear well for me and I don’t usually find them to be as pigmented. When I swatched Heartless I was in LOVE with the shade (inner eye corner LIFE for brown eyes) but was nervous that it wouldn’t be a good one for me since it was so icy. Luckily it’s more metallic than glittery so it looks gorgeous and wears very well. My eyes are watery, allergy prone and I wear contacts. For this to stay so well at my inner corners is impressive.
Walk of Shame 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil ($20.00 // Sephora). One 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil was released in this collection and it is in Walk of Shame which is described as nude.
When the Waterline Eye Pencils originally released I was meh with them. I liked them, but expected more. They basically wore similarly to the Glide-On Eye Pencils and I expected them to last longer in my waterline. Maybe it’s because it’s that beige-tone, but Walk of Shame is glorious for my waterline. It’s the shade I gravitate towards when I need to look more awake because I can’t stand to see or have stark white on the waterline. This is much more natural and it hung out there all day with minor fading.
Heartless and Walk of Shame are swatched below on bare skin (no primers):

Sin and fireball are beautiful. The one and done, I just wish that the darker shades were more complementary to the various undertones of darker brown skin. I bought one and it leaned too warm. I have yellow undertones

How does the one and done compare with the It cosmetics cc cream? I like my cc+, but sometimes I want somthing a bit sheer-er (that is so not a word!) and less… I guess just less! Do you think that would do the trick?
Brooke says
One & Done is MUCH more sheer than the IT Cosmetics. I get a pretty full coverage from IT CC+. You can sheer out the coverage using a damp beauty blender, too!
Amber says
I forgot I grabbed a sample of the One and Done I need to try asap. I love the Sin and Fireball highlighters. SO pretty!! I think Sin is my fave UD shadow, so I probably need to have the highlight too. And that bronzer….I don’t really need another. But I do need one with Palm Tree packaging. 😉

I’m interested in the foundation hybrid product. But what shade for NW25? Medium light or medium?
The blushes are to die for, especially the coral one
Brooke says
You’d be Medium Light. I’m NC/NW20 (depending on the formula) and I used the Light, but this Summer I’d have to use Medium Light because even with SPF I do get a bit darker.

What shade are you in One & Done? I love the formula. I wear Light mixed with white to match my skintone. I agree the highlighters are AMAZING!

I wear the Light and it was a perfect match. In MAC I’m NC/NW20-25 (depending on the formula). Anyone super pale would have a hard time unless they get a little darker in the Summer.
