When I pick out new face makeup I immediately look for anything that says medium or full coverage. I just need it. After I find that I move on to find what’s best for my skin type (which is oily and also sensitive). Usually if I see “tint” I cruise on by… because tint is never enough for me. When I tried out the new NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($40.00 // NARS) all that changed.
NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is available in 12 shades and is said to provide both “instant results” and “long-term benefits”. Transparent blurring powders help to hide imperfections with an optical effect. When this foundation is used long-term the rose fruit extract will help to “visibly minimize the appearance of pores while controlling shine. Vitamins C, E, and broad spectrum SPF 30 protect against free-radical damage caused by environmental stress”.
I found that this foundation was easy to apply and blended so evenly and quickly. Of all of the ways to apply foundation I personally like to apply this one with my fingers and then buff it out with a flat top kabuki brush. I only needed a small amount to cover my entire face and didn’t need to layer it at all to get more coverage. It was surprising to me (in a wonderful way) that this foundation provided a medium coverage in just one pass and felt light to wear. When used with a concealer (I like NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer) my skin looked flawless. It did cover all day, but my shine cannot be stopped and that peeked through after around 2 hours or so. I sop that up with blotting papers and then all is well =)
I swatched two of the shades below in Alaska (Light 2) and Groenland (Light 3). I thought that Alaska would be perfect but Groenland ended up being my match!
What is your favorite foundation for oily skin? I list my Top 10 here and it’s safe to say that NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint will be making it on the list for 2016!
NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint retails for $40.00 and is currently available at narscosmetics.com. It will be available at Sephora and other specialty stores (Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus) on February 1, 2016.

I am always in search for the perfect foundation or primer/tint and this looks and sounds like it would be so perfect for me. My face tends to get red quite a bit and it’s something I hate so, I want something that covers it up and evens out my skin tone and this sounds right up my ally!

I have combination skin, so I would love to try this! 🙂 It looks like it goes on like a dream- not too heavy, but good coverage too to hide imperfections.

hey lady, thank you for the review. Question – do you also own Nars TM and do you know how it compares to this new foundation? I love their TM because it’s easy to apply and lasts well on me, I even bought the compact version to travel with.
I wear Alaska in the TM version and I think I’m similar skintone to you (I wear MAC NW25) so in this new version I think I will also be Gorenland. I will give this new one a try

Hello! I haven’t used the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in awhile (I also used Alaska in that one!) but this one has a better coverage and a more matte finish. I’m pretty oily and the matte aspect lasted about 2 hours before a bit of shine came through, but on me that’s impressive. When I wear this I don’t feel like I have to constantly blot myself lol

I tend to avoid anything labelled tint as well, as it doesn’t suggest much coverage! This actually sounds lovely, though, fab review!

Normally I don’t wear any foundation without my IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation powder over it, and I don’t even need it with this. Just the Velvet Matte and concealer! If you have Snapchat and see this in time follow me @blushingnoir – I posted a pic to my story and I’m wearing this foundation today with just concealer and then setting powder. It’s awesome to be able to skip a step and still get coverage!
