MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Swatches + Review

January 6, 2016

MAC has joined the matte trend in a chic way with the recent release of their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($20.00 // Nordstrom) line. These mattes offer more of a liquid-suede finish than matte – allowing for a more comfortable and glossy wear. Let’s see how they performed for me!

MAC Retromatte Liquid Lipcolour Review

Of the 15 shades released I tried three of them in Mademoiselle (bright creamy coral), To Matte With Love (bright raspberry) and Oh, Lady (deep wine).

The wand is sponged tipped, but not the doe-foot style you’re used to seeing with the lipglasses. This applicator is more of an oval shape and tapered at the top. It also has a small well in the center to hold product. My lips aren’t too big or too small and I found that one dip in the tube pulls up enough product to coat my lips evenly (for the ones that applied nicely).

The formula is said to “linger” and be very saturated. I’m glad that they were honest in their description and didn’t lead their customers to believe that these were the type of matte liquid lipcolour that would last all day long. I found that Oh, Lady and To Matte With Love lasted around 5-6 hours, leaving a tint behind while Mademoiselle was a little streaky to apply and only lasted around 3 hours or so leaving nothing behind.

These were wonderful to wear and easy to apply. I’m dying to get my hands on Fashion Legacy!

What shades of MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour have you picked up and what do you think of them? Are there any others that I should be putting on my shopping list?

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour retail for $20.00 each and you can purchase them at Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and maccosmetics.com.

Great to see another brand on board with the matte trend! Although I think KVD and Colourpop mattes are still my fave.

I love the longevity of matte lipsticks, but I’m glad to see more satins that are comfy on the lips! The wine shade is so pretty!

These three shades look nice. Too bad they not all of them last 5-6 hours.

Beautiful! I do much better with that finish that regular matte. All three shades are lovely but I’m into those oranges. It’s Mademoiselle for me!
