MAC Cinderella Collection Swatches, Review + EOTD // Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow x 6, Happily Ever After Lipglass, Pearl Varnish Studio Eye Gloss

February 23, 2015

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Before Elsa everyone wanted to be Cinderella. I’d still rather be Cinderella. Cinderella encompasses everything – she’s kind to people and forest animals alike, she can cook, she can clean and she has all the mice to do her sewing and mending. She’s basically just the HBIC no matter what she does. Bonus – married a hot prince. With the impending release of the new Cinderella movie comes a makeup collaboration with MAC so now we can all look like Cinderella! The other Cinderella stuff will definitely take practice and time but looking the part is the first step so that all the rest falls into place 😉

MAC Cinderella Swatches Review

This collection is decent sized and fairly neutral toned – yet sparkly. The packaging is blue like Cinderella’s ball gown and has gold trim. The packaging is plastic but the blue is made fancier with a hint of iridescent purple when you move it around. And you will, because shiny things. Of the pieces releasing with this collection I have three to share with you today in Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow x 6, Pearl Varnish Studio Eye Gloss and Happily Ever After Lipglass. Normally I hold off until I can order more and I just do one big collaborative post… but I could NOT wait to share this stuff. So, when I’m able to order the rest and that order arrives I’ll do another post and link back 😉

Pearl Varnish Studio Eye Gloss ($23.00). Pearl Varnish is described as white gloss with pearl. The description is accurate but what it doesn’t tell you is that there is a multi-color shimmer throughout and it’s super pretty to look at (of course I had to take way too many pics to show you).

You may be asking, wtf is an Eye Gloss and how do I play with it? Well MAC says to use it to enhance pigments or provide a sheer wash of color. IME with this product it’s not super comfortable to wear and it’s really sticky. Not really great to work with on the eye because that skin is so sensitive and thin. If you do want to use this with a look note that you need very little product to coat your lid. Probably at least half of what you’re already thinking about using. Use a small, firm paddle brush and pat/press lightly. I actually have no pigments here right now (the horrors!) but plan on ordering when the collection releases. I think this will work better with those and also with glitters. I’ll give it another run then and let you know my thoughts! The Studio Eye Gloss is generally a PRO only product and this version will be limited edition within the Cinderella collection.

Happily Ever After Lipglass ($16.50). Happily Ever After is described as cool milky pink with bluish pearl. Definitely a good description and if you like the “pearl” aka glitter to show up on your lips this will definitely give you that. It’s gorgeous in the tube and even though the glitter is apparent on the lips it isn’t garishly so. I can’t wait to pick up the lippies to wear under this one! As with all MAC Lipglass they’re a tad sticky. I don’t think it’s too awful but I know a lot of people aren’t into it. This color/packaging is limited edition.

Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow x 6 ($44.00). You’re going to love everything about this but you’re going to hate that out of the 6 eye shadow shades 5 of them are permanent and also very popular shades within the core MAC Collection. In this palette you’ll find: Phloof! Frosted off-white // Frost, Quarry Soft muted plum-brown // Matte, Omega Soft muted beige-taupe // Matte, Vapour Peach-pink with violet pearl // Velvet, Stroke of Midnight Black plum with sparkle pearl // Velvet, Satin Taupe Taupe with silver shimmer // Frost.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

I think it’s safe to say everyone owns or has owned Satin Taupe at some point in their lifetime being that it’s in half of MAC palettes but on the bright side it’s phenomenal in terms of wear/use/formula. Stroke of Midnight is the only new shade that you won’t find individually. It’s got a Velvet finish, which I’m not normally a fan of because it’s so dry, but I did find that it blended nicely in with the other shades on the eye. Vapour also has a Velvet finish but it isn’t as temperamental as Stroke of Midnight, maybe because it’s lighter and any sort of dry/patchiness isn’t as noticeable. All-in-all the palette really is a must-have. You’re getting 6 very wearable eye shadows for $44.00 in an LE palette that can be worn day-to-night for any occasion. Even if you own all 5 of the shades that are perm this houses them in a more travel friendly fashion. It’s pretty, too. Just sayin’.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow palette Swatches Review

I wore this all weekend since the package arrived on Friday but I think  this look is my fave. In the look below I used UDPP as a base and put Satin Taupe all over the lid blending it through the crease and a bit beyond. Quarry is blended on-top of Satin Taupe in the crease and above. Phloof! is at the inner corners blended in toward the center of the eye as well as into the crease.  Stroke of Midnight is placed at the outer V and blended in towards the center of the eye and also into the crease. Vapour is used along the brow bone and blended down into Phloof!. A bit of Satin Taupe is smudged under the lower lash line. The eyeliner is MAC Teddy Eye Kohl and the mascara is Milani Total Lash Cover.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight palette eye look

Do I need to buy every single piece from this collection? Probably not. Am I going to? Abso-effing-lutely. Two reasons. ONE. It’s freaking CINDERELLA, you guys. Reference the first paragraph of this blog post if you managed to forget her awesomeness between here and there. TWO. It’s just so pretty. Anyone who’s been around this blog and my shenanigans for more than 30 seconds knows pretty packaging is my kryptonite. Some people think this particular packaging is cheap looking and plain… I say BOO TO YOU, SIR. It’s anything but (and I’ve said when MAC packaging sucks before, so don’t think I’m all biased just because it’s Cinderella). Go get you some of this before you have all the regrets.

MAC Cinderella launches online THIS WEEK aka February 26, 2015 at https://www.maccosmetics.com. Find it in store on March 5th at select MAC locations (North America) and March 2015 at select locations internationally.

I was really hoping that the palette and lippies would be more colorful. On the other hand, purchasing the palette is a great way to get all of these neutral shades in one place & for a better price! Thanks for the review. 🙂

Cinderella is a more subdued princess… I am really hoping they take on more of the princesses as Disney releases more of the live action movies. I imagine we’ll see a lot of color if they get deeper into it. Some serious pinks and golds with Aurora… omg the teal with Jasmine… Hoping for it! It seems the palette was more well-received than I thought since it sold out rather quickly. It’s definitely useable daily, which I love!
