It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the 50 Shades of Grey book trilogy. Not because I don’t like me a bit of smut but because the writing of said smut is/was awful. I feel like it could’ve been really great had it not been so drawn out to create more pages. If this book has brought us anything (beyond the impending baby boom that the February movie release will bring) it’s the awesome makeup collections – most recently the OPI 50 Shades of Grey Collection.

The polishes are swatches below using a base coat of Cult Nails Get it On and topped with China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat.

My Silk Tie This silky, gleaming silver has got me all tied up.
A silver metallic that isn’t too streaky works for me! Two coats.

OPI My Silk Tie Nail Polish Swatches

Romantically Involved I’m in a deep relationship with this luscious crème red.
This is a deep red cream, maybe the exact red of the Red Room of Pain? We won’t know until movie day! One coat was fine, but two completely hid all visible nail line.

Dark Side of the Mood This brooding, stormy charcoal is dangerously gorgeous.
A dark graphite grey cream. There is a very subtle shimmer throughout but you need extreme and direct sunlight to pick it up. Likely my fave after Romantically Involved. Two coats.

OPI Dark Side of the Mood Swatches

Shine for Me This shimmering silver with subtle blue sparkle really turns me on!
A textured silver with blue glitter throughout. Three coats makes it fully opaque.

OPI Shine for Me Nail Polish Swatches

Cement the Deal I’d sign anything to get my hands on this stony, cool gray.
A light, grey cream. I feel bad I can’t say more about it because it’s that perfect grey shade that everyone should have in their stash. Two coats.

OPI Cement the Deal Nail Polish Swatches

Embrace the Gray Let this chic, moody gray crème become one with you.
This shade is a medium grey cream in between Cement the Deal and Dark Side of the Mood. Two coats.

OPI Embrace the Gray Nail Polish Swatches

While five grey nail polishes and one eye popping red might not frost your cookies I love this little collection. It’d have been fun to see a cream taken out and a fancy-schmancy holo thrown in but all-in-all it’s on theme and all of the polishes had a great formula. My fave is, of course, Romantically Involved. When have I not loved the red the most?!

The OPI 50 Shades of Grey Nail Polish collection will be available beginning January 2015 for a limited time only.
Nail lacquers will retail for $9.50 ($11.50 CAN) each at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Chatters, Dillard’s, Regis, ULTA and ulta.com.

    I always love a good silver polish (I could go through a bottle every month if I didn’t try to be more diverse) so I love the My Silk Tie. But the Dark Side of the Mood definitely looks beautiful and intriguing, so I’d pick that as a favorite of this set.

    I love Embrace the Grey! I also like dark side of the mood but Embrace the Grey is my first choice! I really really want to see this movie! I didn’t read the book and I didn’t even know what the big deal was or what it was about until I saw the trailer for the movie. It looks like mike kind of movie~ I prob wont be able to see it in the theatre because of babysitter issues but I can’t wait til it comes out on dvd! thanks for the chance!

    hmm hard to choose I think I love dark side of the moon most though! It was tied between the two greys and I couldn’t choose so I’m going with the darkest colour cause I just love dark polishes!

    Cement the Deal. I totally think that they could have done so much more with this collection by mixing up the finishes, I would’ve loved to have seen all greys but one creme, one shimmer, one holo, one matte, etc.

    I like the colour Romantically Involved in the 50 Shades of Grey Palette. On the form it says I am to pick a Maybelline Brights Palette and if that is the case I will choose the Royal Blue.
