Back in my November Glossybox I got a lovely blush from a new brand called So Susan, which is out of the UK. One of the best parts about a beauty subscription service is discovering new brands and based off of that blush (which I use as a highlighter) So Susan was absolutely a brand I was interested in learning more about, especially since they’ve now launched in the US!
I was sent a few products to try out from the brand including the Liquid Powder Shadow Palette in Sumptuous Smoke, the Concealer Quad, the Wonderlight luminizer + brightening base in Pink Glow, the 8-hour Cheek Stain in Sun Peach and the Flutter Mascara.
Liquid Powder Shadow Palette ($14.95 // So Susan). This palette is available in 4 shades and I received the one in Sumptuous Smoke which, with it’s purples and wines, is perfectly on trend for the Pantone Color of the Year, Marsala! This palette’s formula uses a cream to powder hybrid that is said to melt into the skin. Let me tell you, the pigment on these eye shadows is beyond incredible. Each shade is so smooth, applies easily to the eye and blends very well into the other colors for an eye look that lasts all day over primer. The squares are on the small side but I still found that it was easy to get a brush into. My only real gripe on this palette is that there is no lighter shade to highlight with or help blend out the colors. Since the colors are so deep and so saturated I really think it’s imperative that a light shade be thrown in to balance everything. Below this palette is swatched dry without primer.
In the look below I’m wearing // Eyes: UDPP (as a base), from the Sumptuous Smoke Palette second shade from the right is all over the lid and the shade directly above it is used in the crease and blended upward. I used MAC Grain at the inner corners, to blend out the crease color and also to highlight. For a liner I used MAC Teddy Eye Kohl on the top and bottom. On the top lid I smudged the liner out using the first shade on the bottom row of the Sumptuous Smoke Palette. I also used that shade to smudge underneath the lower lash line. On my eyebrows is the IT Cosmetics YBBB Brow Power Skinny Pencil with MAC Emphatically Blonde Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set. The mascara is So Susan Flutter Lashes.
Concealer Quad ($30.95 // So Susan). Formulated with virgin Marula oil this palette contains 4 concealer colors from a white to a brown. Because of the variety and the creamy texture this is nice for concealing and also as a highlight/contour.
Wonderlight luminizer + brightening base ($17.95 // So Susan). This duo is available in 3 shades and I received Pink Glow. On one side is an eye primer, on the other side there’s a perfector/concealer. I didn’t have luck with the base on it’s own, but my lids are extremely oily. TBH I found this best used as a cream highlight shade. It looks majorly frosty on the swatch but when dabbed lightly into the skin it really makes the face come alive and glow, not sparkle.
8-hour Cheek Stain ($29.95 // So Susan). There are three shades available and the one I received is in the shade Sun Peach. A beautiful color with a lovely pigment to it. This cheek stain lasted well up to about the 8-hour mark, as stated, and really gives a nice glow. At first it’s going to see like you have way too much of this on but the color will fade and sink in to the skin a bit. Still, particularly if you’re on the fair side, you’ll want to dab a bit on with your fingers and blend and let it sit for a few minutes. Add more as needed.
Flutter Mascara ($20.95 // So Susan). The mascara is my least favorite item of the bunch. It just did nothing for me. The website states that this mascara is “An intense carbon-black mascara formulated with hyaluronic spheres to help you achieve the darkest, curviest lashes possible. The long brush with extra stiff bristles helps to achieve voluminous, multi-dimensional lashes in just one coat. Suitable for contact lens wearers”. Definitely very black but the formula is extremely wet. Probably the most wet of any mascara that I’ve ever used. I don’t feel that it curled my lashes at all and even after 3 coats all I had was wet, flat lashes. Also, after each time you dip the wand back into the tube product appears to clump (while still being wet) between the bristles making my lashes stick together a lot more than usual.
In the look below I’m wearing // Eyes: see breakdown above. // Face: MUFE HD Foundation in 125, IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation Illumination in Light, So Susan Concealer Quad top right shade, So Susan Wonderlight luminizer in Pink Glow as a cheek highlight, So Susan 8-hour Cheek Stain in Sun Peach // Lips: Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask with So Susan 8-hour Cheek Stain over-top.
After testing all of the products above I’m a HUGE fan of the eye shadows (not kidding I need the other three palettes) and the 8-hour Cheek Stain. I’m also definitely looking forward to checking out their lip and nail products! What products are you interested in trying from the So Susan brand?
So Susan products can be purchased directly from the website where they also have a monthly subscription service called Lip Love where you get 3 lip products and a bonus makeup item for $15.95 – and that, my friends, looks like an amazing thing!
Lovely make-up. I like it!
I’ve never heard of this brand, but the shadows look amazing. I’m sold.

I like that the eye shadows are so pigmented. This sounds like a fun subscription box too! 🙂
I want that shadow palette! I love those kinds of colors. I’ll just make sure I pull out a neutral palette with it, like my UD Pulp Fiction.

I like the upbeat and artsy box design but not the actual packaging. There seems to be a “disconnect”. Good to know you love their eyeshadows.

What an interesting collection! The shadow shades were incredible but I agree with you that the palette needs some lighter shades otherwise it’s like eating an entire meal of dessert. I like the look of the concealer palette. And curious about the luminizer. I have desperately dry eyelids so I am always looking for hydrating stuff to moisturize and concealer my bright red lids. I’ll be looking out for So Susan. Cool new brand!
