Whether you’re going to Las Vegas or walking to the store to buy a lottery ticket the Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette ($37.99 // Makeup Geek) is a must-have. I hate to give away my feelings on a product right at the beginning of a post, but there you have it.
The packaging features the Vegas skyline in gold as well as card suits in pink over a bone ivory colored case. Perfect yet not overdone. The case is a sturdy cardboard material that closes magnetically with a good sized mirror on the inside. Very portable and travel-friendly! Each eye shadow is full sized at 1.8g.
The shades you’ll get in this palette are Casino (shimmery saturated metallic gold with orange undertones), Sin City (shimmery golden apricot/golden medium orange), Roulette (a rosy, burnt shimmery sienna), Bada Bing (deep brown with flecks of gold), Desert Sands (matte, medium terra-cotta) and Mirage (pale matte beige with yellow undertones and a silky finish). As a first time Makeup Geek user I’m completely blown away by the formula. The shadows are soft and extremely pigmented even with one swipe. Each shade blended well and lasted all day over a primer.
Five eyeshadows are all exclusive to the Vegas Lights palette and are not sold separately – Bada Bing can be found within the permanent line. This palette is limited edition.
For the eye look below (1) I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion and (2) placed Roulette all over the lid leaving a big of the inner corner open. Here it gets a little weird because I added one thing and layered another. (3) I put Desert Sands in the crease only and then decided it wasn’t what I wanted so (4) I took Casino and blended over top of Desert Sands moving the color upward. (4) Next I put Bada Bing in the outer V and took the shade into the crease to mix it with the Casino/Desert Sands mash up and blended again. To finish up the look (5) I applied Mirage at the inner corners as well as above the crease color blending up to the brow. I also used this to highlight. (6) I then smudged a bit of Bada Bing under the outer third of the lower lash line. The eyeliner is Marc Jacobs (Ro)Cocoa Highliner-Gel Crayon on the bottom and only about halfway on the top (from the outer corner to the center. The mascara is Urban Decay Perversion.
Do you need this? YES. Unless you’re cool toned, because this is full of warm. There are plenty of other eye shadows available from Makeup Geek so if you do lean more cool you can always make your own – each shadow retails for only $5.99! Shipping is worldwide and products are cruelty-free.

These are very summery kind of colours – I guess they’re trying to make up for all the bad weather you are having in the Northern Hemisphere.
Being a cool-toned gal, these are not my colours. But they do look beautiful.

I especially like Roulette! It looks like a really versatile shade, maybe even able to be worn with some warmer shades, too.

While I loooove the shades, I do think they are a bit close together in tone. BUT, the packaging makes up for that!
