This week for Makeup Wars we’re talking about holiday and creating looks with holiday palettes… or, if we aren’t feeling so festive, bold looks. Very few holiday beauty offerings make me as happy as the ones from Dior. I always seem to “need” their gold toned 5-Couleur every year. Well, this year I needed both of the 5-Couleur Eyeshadow Palettes and a few other goodies. Are we really surprised? (*If it’s still available as of this blog post I’ll link to where you can buy it).
Golden Reflections 046 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00). I wanted to share this one first since this is the palette that I did the eye look with and I’m so in love with how it came out. This one seemingly sold out quick, but you might be able to find it in stores… I ordered awhile ago and felt frantic the order would be cancelled because the cart said 2 left when I checked out at Neiman Marcus. You guys, if you can find this… GET THIS. Of course it’s the gold one and I love all the gold but this is truly beautiful, especially the deep khaki toned gold there in the upper right. This is golds and silvers working together on all levels of perfection. A lot of people whine about the middle shade which seems to pop up a lot in the holiday quads… it’s almost like a liquid gold which is basically sheer on the eye other than some glitter – but once you use it (I tend to dab it at the inner corner or on the center of a finished eye look) you will need it on every.single.look. Trust.
For the eye look below I began with UDPP as my base and applied that gorgeous khaki toned gold all over the lid, leaving a bit at the inner corners bare. The graphite grey shade is at the crease and outer V, blended heavily. The mid-tone grey is used to blend out the crease and I applied the greige shade at the inner corners and to blend out the mid-tone grey. Blend this all the way up to the brow. Next that amazing center liquid gold shade is dabbed right where the mid-tone grey meets the khaki toned gold. The eye liner is Urban Decay Black Velvet 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil. For mascara I layered Milani Total Lash Cover and Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes.
Golden Shock 756 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00, Nordstrom). I will admit, I bought this one as an after-thought. I know the purples are big this holiday and I’ve embraced that, but I wasn’t sure I wanted more of them. This palette, of course, has the liquid golden center but rather than the greys and silvers promotes more golden tones. I couldn’t be without that bottom right light gold. I couldn’t. It’s very likely the exact same shade is in my stash, but the presentation with the beautiful eggplant purple and the vintage violet… It’s just a great set of eye shadow shades. Really if you get ONE purple eye shadow palette this holiday season GET THIS ONE.
Mysterious Shock 008 Diorific – Golden Shock Lipstick ($38.00, Nordstrom). I grabbed this lipstick because I am a fan of Dior lipsticks in general and this one just looks so fun with the split shades! Unfortunately, not a fan of this one in particular. I love the color… the deep Bordeaux side is gorgeous and pigmented and the other side is more like a wine shimmer… majorly frosty. BUT. They do pair up well together. What I don’t like is the feel and the taste of this lipstick. It feels and smells waxy…. almost cheap. Maybe it’s what they used to bond the shades together, but I just was not happy with this in terms of … well, anything but the color.
Pink Excess 663 Golden Shock – Addict Gloss ($29.50, Nordstrom). Dior glosses are always so pretty! They always feel good and look good.. even with a subtle shimmer it’s not noticeable but does add dimension to the look. Pink Excess is a sheer pink with multi-faceted shimmer that really amps up a deep shade (and definitely made Mysterious Shock more wearable) or looks beautiful worn alone.
Golden Shock & Gold Equinoxe Diorific – Vernis Nail Enamel ($27.00, Nordstrom). Gold Equinoxe is a light gold shimmer. The formula feels a little thin and does paint on sheer, but three coats makes it look fabulous and when you top it off with Golden Shock gold flake top coat.. BLING.

I love Dior’s palettes – I recently was given Jardin for my birthday (from my son!) and it is truly beautiful. This Golden Shock palette will be what I would love for Christmas. It is gorgeous. I am so into their shades. The nail polish and lipsticks are fantastic. I love the look you did too. It really suits you.
Thank you! Your son totally knows how to butter up mom! I hope mine is the same 😉
I really admired that top coat in the store- it was bottled so beautifully!

WOOOO!
I love your Dior eyeshadow reviews too! Do you have a posting about what brushes you use to get your look?
Thank you! I use the MAC 239 usually to place lid and outer V color – the MAC 226 or IT Cosmetics No Tug Dual Eye Shadow Brush for blending into the crease (depends on how much “crease” I’m covering lol I have SO MUCH eye space!). Inner corners I usually use the MAC 275. I generally use that same shade/brush to highlight.
As usual I love your look. You are the queen of Dior.
That’s the best compliment ever! Love to be queen 😉
Those shadows are stunning!
