MAC The Simpsons Collection Swatches, Review + GIVEAWAY! #MACxMarge

October 2, 2014

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Can you even believe that it’s been 25 years since The Simpsons first aired on TV? That may be older than some of you reading this, but back then that show was it. Parents didn’t want you to watch it, but you did anyway because it was hilarious and back in 1989 completely groundbreaking. Critics clearly agree since this show is still on and is touted as the longest running prime-time comedy series as well as the longest-running prime-time animated series in US TV history (source).  On it’s 25th Anniversary The Simpsons has partnered with MAC Cosmetics to bring you a collection featuring none other than their very own matriarch, Marge.

MAC The Simpsons Collection Swatches Review #MACxMarge

The packaging is black plastic and the top is yellow with the Simpsons and MAC logos as well as a close up of Marge giving the side eye (of which she is fantastic at). I’m SO HAPPY that the art work is painted on rather than just being a sticker. The boxes are too cute as well being primarily yellow with outlines of the characters as well as the bold blue of Marge’s bouffant.

MAC The Simpsons Collection Review Swatches #MACxMarge

This collection wasn’t huge but it wasn’t small, so I’m excited to bring you a big portion of what you can pick up. While this collection is limited edition for the most part it’s still available.

The Simpsons 7 Lash ($18.50). These lashes are the quintessential look of Marge some short, some long… all spiky and no-nonsense. These lashes are designed for a glamorous, yet natural effect.

The Simpsons Nail Stickers ($16.50 for 16 nail stickers). I’m obsessed with how adorable these are. They look like the outerbox packaging, all yellow with black outlines of the characters. I feel like to wear these stickers on all 10 of your fingers is a little much so I used them as accents to a mani that is the shade of Marge’s hair. I used Milani Blue Print Color Statement Nail Lacquer as well as some gold studs for the nail art. I found that these applied well and stayed on nicely, though I wish the Marge hair parts would have been blue!

That Trillion Dollar Look Quad ($44.00). This is a fantastic quad containing four eye shadows – Lisa’s Spikes (lime green, frost); Apple Squishee (midtone kelly green, frost); 2 Dozen and One Greyhounds (dirty olive green, veluxe pearl) and Chalkboard Dreams (deep blackened teak, velvet). I was really impressed with the pigment of Lisa’s Spikes and Apple Squishee. They appeared dry in the pan but were really easy to get color from on the lid when using a firm brush (like the MAC 239). 2 Dozen and One Greyhounds, being a vleuxe pearl, is the stuff my dreams are made of. Soft and wonderful it’s one of my new favorite shades! Chalkboard Dreams is a little stiff but gave off good color for a Velvet and I was impressed that I didn’t have to work hard to blend it. Note: the imprint of Marge will fade. I’ve been working in her hair to try and keep those beady eyes level.

MAC That Trillion Dollar Look Quad Review #MACxMarge MAC That Trillion Dollar Look Quad Swatches #MACxMarge

In the eye look below I began with a primer (UDPP) and applied Lime Squishee all over the lid. Lisa’s Spikes is placed at the inner corner of the eye while Chalkboard Dreams is at the outer V. I also used Chalkboard Dreams to trace along the outer half of the lower lash line. I blended 2 Dozen and One Greyhounds through the crease and upwards into MAC Grain Eyeshadow which was used as a highlight. For lashes I used The Simpsons 7 Lash. The top liner is Urban Decay Black Velvet and the mascara is Milani Total Lash Cover (two coats on the top and bottom lashes).

MAC That Trillion Dollar Look Quad Eye look

The Simpsons Tinted Lipglass ($16.50). Four shades were released and I have three swatched below in Grand Pumpkin (bright creamy orange); Red Blazer (bright fuchsia) and Itchy & Scratchy & Sexy (electric blue violet). These feel just like your usual lipglass, not too sticky but you can feel a bit of tackiness. I thought Grand Pumpkin was a little patchy when applied but Red Blazer and ISS were both borderline opaque and easy to apply – shockingly my two faves!

Sideshow You Blush ($24.00). Sideshow You is described as a light peach coral. Again, like with some of the shadows in the quad, I was shocked at the pigment. It looked rather dry in the pan but when applied there was an intense amount of color, as well as being smooth and easy to blend. Upon first application I had to tone it down. The shade itself really brightens up the face and it’s now, without a doubt, a blush I reach for very often.

MAC Sideshow You Powder Blush Review #MACxMarge

In the look below I’m wearing the eye look (break down is listed above within the review of the quad), Sideshow You Powder Blush and Grand Pumpkin Lipglass.

I Also Meant to Tell You that I Love your Nail Art & I Follow All your Manicure on a Ton of Different Sites but Especially Bloglovin & Pinterest and I Think also on Bellashoot! I Have Pinned a Ton of Your Manicures b/c I Have the Same Taste as You do When it Comes to Nail Art & Make Up Too Apparently! I Love Color, I Would Much Rather Have Pretty Pastels or Vivid Neons than Plain Old Neutrals! I also am a Hug Fan of Anything Sparkly, Shimmery, or Glittery; I am as Girly as They Come in that Aspect! That’s Why I Love your Manicures; They are Always Fun & Colorful but also Very Unique & Original! I Meant to Tell You that in My Original Comment but I Got So Wrapped Up in the Beautiful Make Up Pictures! I Don’t have any MAC but I Have Worn it before when I Used to Work in Cosmetics and I Can Tell I Must be a MAC Girl b/c All their Make Up is Very Colorful & Shimmery the Way I Like it! I am Going to Ask Santa for that Eye Shadow for Christmas b/c Green is My Favorite Color but I Hope they Still Have this Collection then? Anyways, Sorry for Rambling; I Just get Excited Over Make Up & Nails! Thanks Again for this Beautiful Giveaway, I am Sure it Will Make Someone’s Day! Have a Blessed Weekend! P.S. I Agree that Marge’s Hair Should have been Blue on the Nail Sticker, I Mean Duh! It isn’t Really Marge without Blue Hair but the Blue Nail Polish Pulled Everything Together Nicely! Take Care, Jana

Ohhh … your eye-make-up looks amazing! I usually only go for quads when I like at least three of the colors and I must admit that Lisa’s Spikes and Apple Squishee kinda kept me from considering a purchase. Now that I see how you made those colors work I think I need to reconsider being so hesitant sometimes. As to the blush, I’ve set my eyes on that one for a while now, so thanks for the great chance to win it!
