After skipping all of Dior Summer (I know, wtf Brooke) I dove fast and furious into the items that have launched for the Dior 5 Couleurs Fall 2014 Color Collection, in particular the 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palettes. Two struck my fancy as must haves (because as much as I wanted to buying all 5 palettes just wasn’t happening) – Trafalgar #876 and today’s post of Pied-de-Poule #096. I’m going to be honest when I say that I first looked at Pied-de-Poule because of the name. Like to the point when the MA said the name to me I said “Excuse me?” to her several times. Think about it. I don’t want to be crass and say it in this post, but I seriously thought she was saying something else. Of course I told her why I kept asking and we laughed like crazy, because…mature.
The packaging is essentially the same – a navy blue case with the silver lettering BUT without the holographic hidden CD that they used to have (see packaging of the past). It’s just plain, glossy navy. It’s definitely more sleek looking, but I do miss the old packaging. Fear not, you’re still getting the velveteen slip case.
The five eyeshadow shades you get inΒ Pied-de-Poule are a navy blue pearl (top left), pearly white (top right), blackened olive with fine golden shimmers (bottom right), deep eggplant with gold sparkle (bottom left), blackened navy matte (center). The shining star of this palette is definitely that navy blue pearl. It’s stunning. I do wish that the rest of the shades were just as beautiful dry, but they got the job done regardless. They are swatched below dry with no primer:
These shades can be worn wet or dry, I found I got a decent enough intensity if I packed them on dry, but if you really want a bold and sexy look they do look fantastic if you dampen your brush before you apply. Pied-de-Poule is swatched wet below with no primer:
In the eye look below I primed the lids with NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base. Using all of the shades dry I placed the navy metallic all over the lid leaving the inner corner open to apply the pearly white shade there as well as a highlight. The eggplant shade is used in the crease and blended up. The blackened olive shade is smudged under the lower lash line with Bobbi Brown Sapphire Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner on the waterline. I used the blackened navy shade to line the top lash line and the mascara is Urban Decay Perversion.
How would you wear Dior Pied-de-Poule?
The Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette retail for $60.00 each and are available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Ave, Macy’s, Sephora and dior.com.
Isn’t it curious that Houndstooth pattern is Pied-de-poule (basically chicken feet or chicken footprints) in French.
I liked that palette but Trafalgar won out for me. Looking forward to your post. Dior has a 2 min video with a look for Trafalgar. It is so nice.
Trafalgar won for me too, hands down! I can’t wait to share it!
How gorgeous is your eye look!?! Dior’s palettes always look so pretty.

I love the colors, but I have to agree with Kimmi – they look a bit dry, even when swatched wet.

The wet swatches look wayy better but for the price of that palette the dry would have to do just as well.

I have to say this palette is a little un impressive. The look you created is gorgeous and in the pans it looks amazing but the dry swatches are disappointing. If I’m going to pay that much for it I would want them to apply dry like they appear in the wet swatches.

The palette looks gorgeous, but I was disappointed with how the colors looked applied dry. For that kind of money, they should be perfection!

The colors don’t even look the same from dry to wet! How frosty is this palette? I kinda gave up on Dior b/c all the 5 Colours were so frosty.
Cindy (Prime Beauty) recently posted..Fall Fashion Trends 2014 with Shane Co: Sponsored Post
It’s not frosty hardly at all. It’s got some shimmer, though. The frostiest shade is the white followed by that gorgeous navy blue, but I wouldn’t even call that one a frost.
The damp brush makes the shades workable. Love the blue.

Haha, I didn’t think about the name until I just read your story. I would have done the same thing and ended up giggling with the MA! π This is a beautiful palette, I had high hopes for that olive shade though π
