The theme for the May 2014 ipsy Glam Bag is Fresh Picks. I’ve had this ipsy bag here for a while now, but haven’t gotten around to posting because I’m just not excited about it. Value wise it’s still worth the $10, and it’s certainly not the worst bag I’ve received from them, it’s just not anything to write home about.
Above is the bag that houses the goods. A leafy green vine decor on an ivory bag. Also included with your shipment is a card listing all of the awesome deals you can get by visiting the Glam Room on ipsy.com.
What’s inside?
From Balanced Guru, No Frizz Organic Sesame and Lemongrass Balancing Oil. I use this on the ends of my hair to smooth it out. My crown is oily so I have to keep it away from there, and oils tend to travel upwards on the strands of my hair. It contains Argan oil along with other oils (sesame, jojoba, tamanu), lemongrass and eucalyptus. While this product works just as well for me as another argan oil, it smells pretty bad… I’d pass on it because of the scent. You can find the same thing in another product that smells good.
From Hang Ten, Classic Sport SPF50. This is a water resistant (up to 80 minutes) sunscreen. I like the smaller tubes because I can keep them in my purse just in case I forget to apply. I wasn’t a fan of the scent of this (however it’s not horrible & fades down) but it does go on clear and soak in quickly.
From Avène, Thermal Spring Water. Okay, I get that some people like these water sprays to keep their dry skin hydrated, but they’re a HUGE waste of money. HUGE. Get a 99cent spray bottle at Walmart and put water in it. Same thing. I’m not kidding, the only ingredients in this are Water & Nitrogen. That’s it. Why would you pay money for this? =\ I can justify spending money on ANYTHING but even I’ll tell you to save your cash.
From Boo-Boo Cover-Up, Boo-Boo Cover-up: Medium Shade. This worked well at covering up blemishes and marks. It was a tiny bit too yellow for me, though so I’ll stick to my IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye. Swatched below.
From Pacifica, Mineral Eyeshadow Duo. Two duos were sent out and I got Duo #2 with the shades Moonbeam & Unicorn. I thought they were pretty but they’re very lacking in pigment and it’s not something I’d purchase on my own. Swatched below.
Did I seem less than enthusiastic over this months bag? That’s because I am. I feel like it was still worth the money because there are products I’ll get use out of, but I wouldn’t have wanted to try them on my own. This is the first month in a long time that I’ve liked my Birchbox better. There just wasn’t anything here that really stood out for me. It doesn’t help that other members got things like a Too Faced Bronzer and a Revlon Matte Balm (aka an awesome sauce bag).
Ipsy does profile pages now, so here is mine. There is also a pretty amazing referral program in place. You refer friends and redeem points to get a sweet little bonus in your next bag. I’ve gotten some really fab full sized products as my bonuses, but, something new, you can use your points to choose your own bonus! I cashed in back in November for a full size NYX Cosmetics Bronze Smokey Look Kit (see photos and swatches here).
Here is where you can go to subscribe to ipsy for a Glam Bag.
What do you think about the May Glam Bag? Are you going to subscribe for June? I’m still looking forward to my next bag, but I’m hoping it’s better that what they sent out this month.

My bag was super lame too. I totally agree about that spray bottle of water. What a joke! Hopefully Ipsy will make up for it next month!

At least we’re not alone =\ I remember last year a friend of mine who does makeup for Armani and I were in Sephora laughing at the Evian bottles that are like the Avene. No one needs to pay that for water in a can.
