The theme of the September Birchbox is Heritage – focusing on the stories behind the brands.
As you open the box the card resting on top gives you a little explanation and greeting on one side and a run down of what is in your box on the other side.
Let’s see what’s going on for September!
From BCBGMAXAZRIA, the fragrance in Bon Genre. This scent is interesting… it seems to change several times throughout the first minute you wear it. It went from musky to sweet to vanilla to spicy then sweet. I kind of like it, though it did give me a slight headache and also made me hungry lol This is just a small spray vial of the fragrance.
From Benefit Cosmetics, the Sugarbomb Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. This is gorgeous and wears beautifully with no sticky, goopy feeling. Sugarbomb is one of those colors that you can keep in your purse and wear every day all day.
From Le Couvent Des Minimes, the Gardener’s Hand Healer. Clearly, not a gardener over here… but this stuff is amazing! It smells lemony and isn’t super greasy. A small amount moisturized my hands and made them feel and look 100% better. I’d definitely be on board with purchasing a full size of this.
From Sienna Naturals, the Baobab Oil Moisturizing Hair & Body Shampoo. At first I thought this was for a pregnant lady, because of the preggo on the bottle. Which made me go.. hmmmm…. it smells like mint, which is actually very relaxing to me, and it does do some amazing things to the hair. It’s a love!
From Ruffian, the Nail Lacquer in Hedge Fund. How gorgeous is that metallic green and gold shimmer nail polish that you see below?! It says to apply 2 coats, but I only used one in the photo below. Why mess with a good thing? Clearly, this was my favorite item from this months box!
This months Birchbox has just really been underwhelming. I feel like I’m getting samples I’d receive for free in a GWP from Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus… or just by walking into somewhere like Sephora and asking for one. The nail polish was my favorite part and it is a full size, retailing for $10.00 on it’s own… so, at least there’s that.
I’m on the fence for next month, and I need to decide SOON! What do you think? Keep or cancel?
Wanna sign up for Birchbox? (Click for referral) If you like what you see go to the website and fill out the form. It’s just $10 a month (free shipping too!) and you get some cool stuff, tho I will warn you, you’re going to get stuff you hate as well.
***Disclosure – I buy my own Birchbox, but the links posted here do give me referral points which I can use towards product on the site. Once you sign up for your own Birchbox, you’ll also get a referral code to send out to others and get some points of your own!

Cancel! Admittedly, I cancelled Birchbox a few months into my Ipsy subscription. Was I getting $10 of stuff from BB? I guess. But other subscriptions are SO MUCH better for the money, I couldn’t bring myself to continue getting comparably bad ROI from Birchbox.

That’s probably my biggest reason for wanting to cancel BB… ipsy is going balls out for the $10, and it’s making BB (which I used to love) look really bad in comparison.
