For countless months in a row the ipsy Glam Bag remains consistently well worth the $10 and then some. This bag wasn’t 100% a win for me, but I got some great items… even a new HG!
The theme for the September 2013 ipsy Glam Bag is Classic Beauty.
What you see above is a royal blue makeup bag with black lacy flowers patterned all over.
The card is basically there to give you the run down of the discounts you can get by visiting the Glam Room on ipsy.com. There are a ton this month, which is exciting! There is also an insert with a sample of The Life Palette – Career Life from em Michelle Phan.
What’s inside?
First, since it was already mentioned, let’s talk about the sample card insert from Michelle Phan‘s new beauty line – em. Below I got a sampling of Look 3 “Out to Lunch”. I’ve seen these palettes around the blogosphere but have held back purchasing because of mixed reviews. On the four shades below I found the cheek color to be decently pigmented, but a little chalky feeling. Of the three eye shadows the only one that didn’t appear sheer and dry was the bronze shade. It’s hard to give an accurate review representation of the products, since this is just product on a card, but based off of this card I can’t see myself shelling out the cash at this time. The RAEviewer did an awesome post on the Day Life Palette and you can check out the Beach Life Palette review and swatches over on LVMakeup.
Next, the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara. This was just okay. It’s a nice every day mascara, but I didn’t find it to be volumizing. It’s got more of a natural finish when applied to the lashes.
From NYX, the Eyeshadow in Golden Poppy. I’m always happy to get a shadow from NYX! This shade is lightly golden and soft. As with most NYX shadows it’s easy to apply and blend with excellent wear time.
From Starlooks, the Obsidian Kohl Eye Pencil. Super soft and easy to apply and smudge. I’ve found this one to be good for the top lid, but I can’t use it to line the lower because it migrated quite a bit.
From Chella, the Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil. This was smooth and creamy, but unfortunately not my shade. It’s really light so I can’t speak for how well it lasts throughout the day, but it blended and covered well upon application.
(L-R: Cailyn Big Red Apple, NYX Golden Poppy, Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter, Starlooks Obsidian Kohl)
Finally, the from Cailyn, the Tinted Lip Balm in Big Red Apple. I adore this beyond all measure of words. The rest of this bag could have contained rocks and dirt and it still would have been my favorite purchase of the year. The product comes in a pot with a small lip brush sticking out of the top. It took some time to paint on but the end result was worth it. The balm is moisturizing without being thick or glossy and it stains the lips so that it’ll last for hours and hours. Below I applied this product alone, using the lip brush, with no exfoliation beforehand or any other balm over it or under it.
Definitely worth the $10 and then some. I am absolutely in for October since the value from ipsy remains fabulous and keeps getting better and better!
Ipsy does profile pages now, so here is mine. And now they finally are offering a referral program, basically refer friends and get a sweet little bonus in your next bag (mine so far have been nail polishes from Nicole by OPI & Lime Crime and an eye shadow from Urban Decay, all full sized!). Soooo go sign up because you’re missing out!
Here is where you can go to subscribe to ipsy for a Glam Bag.
What do you think about the September Glam Bag? Are you going to subscribe for October? I know I’m looking forward to my next bag!

Wow. Never heard of Cailyn before and now, I am in process of making an order. That lip balm looks amazing, plus they have gel eyeliners which are my weakness. OH MY!.
Urgghhhh!!! I’m still on the wait list! I would’ve loved the lip balm!

I usually don’t really like beauty boxes, but most of these items are things I would use! I thought the NYX shadow was Highlight, looks really similar to that one, very very pretty

I just got this bag as my first IPSY and I liked it! The Cailyn lip was my fave too, although I found it a little bit matte. With some extra balm I am in love. The NYX shadow you got is pretty as well

I have subscribed too but in a waiting list 🙁
I just can’t get into that box. I subscribed when they first started and then ended up cancelling. Have you tried Birchbox or Glossy Box?

I was the same, Ria! It got soooo crappy. It’s a lot better now =) Birchbox has gotten lame lately. I have my September box here and I’m thinking of cancelling. It used to be my fave. =( GlossyBox is fabulous. It’s a little more expensive but the items are much more high end and the customer service is amazing!
I love Ipsy too… I got that lip balm too :0 but haven’t used it yet .
