The theme of the August Birchbox is Finishing School – focusing on elegance, confidence and bright lipstick.
As you open the box the card resting on top gives you a little explanation and greeting on one side and a run down of what is in your box on the other side.
Let’s see what’s going on for August!
First, from Jasmine Seven, the Fresh Feet Wipes. Okay. So this is a little odd… because a baby wipe really does the same thing… but these are niiiiiice on my feets, man. It does feel good, smell good and fits nicely in my purse, but I don’t know if I want to pay for special wipes for my feet. I’d rather get a lippie.
Next, from Model Co, Party Proof Lipstick. I got the shade Disco Fever, which is a bright salmon shade. One swipe gave nice color, but it wasn’t even so I had to layer a bit. This formula is described as a semi-matte on the Birchbox card and gives off a nice shine when worn and isn’t drying. It wipes off easily and I love the shade, but I do wish it left at least a slight stain behind so a little color was left to pop some clear gloss over for a quick touch up.
Third, from Number 4, the Super Comb Prep & Protect. This is basically a leave-in conditioner slash detangler. I’ll take as many of these as I can get. My daughters hair tangles like no other. This particular one works well on her hair and has a nice, subtle fragrance.
Fourth, from Dr. Jart+, the Premium BB Cream SPF 45+. This shade is for light-to-medium skin and covers decently, feeling lightweight and absorbing quickly. You won’t need much product to cover your face, which is nice because it’ll last you.
The “Beauty Extra” is from TanTowel and is a one towelette sample pack of the Classic Formula Self-Tan Towelettes for half-body application. I was hesitant to try this product, because I haven’t really heard good things about it. I was able to use this over both legs and it didn’t have a stink to it (woooo!). The TanTowel is also very easy to use and is perfect for travel. I would definitely recommend for travel, no doubt. My tip, to avoid streaking start application on a larger part of your body, like the tops of your legs rather than the bottom.
There was also an Ann Taylor coupon (a good one 20-30% off) in the box and what was really a big ad featuring the Ann Taylor top picks. With any $85+ purchase in the Birchbox Shop you get an Ann Taylor scarf for free. Code: AnnTaylor.
This Birchbox was okay.…I wasn’t floored with it, but I felt like it was worth the $10. I’m happy enough to keep my subscription going into September, anyway. It’s hard when ipsy is really pulling out all the stops with their Glam Bag, which is making Birchbox (what was once my favorite $10 subscription) seem kind of junky.
Wanna sign up for Birchbox? (Click for referral) If you like what you see go to the website and fill out the form. It’s just $10 a month (free shipping too!) and you get some cool stuff, tho I will warn you, you’re going to get stuff you hate as well.
***Disclosure – I buy my own Birchbox, but the links posted here do give me referral points which I can use towards product on the site. Once you sign up for your own Birchbox, you’ll also get a referral code to send out to others and get some points of your own!

I thought about switching but then I wonder how long could ipsy keep up with providing items like that. It seems like everyone one of these $10 box companies started out with a bang but as time went on got more moderate in what they were sending. You may laugh but I really thought the wipes were great, especially if you are let’s say at the gym/dance class and can’t wash your feet when changing from sneakers to sandals. So I bought some. 🙂

I’ve unsubbed from glam before because it was just awful, but since ipsy took over it’s been fabulous!
