I’ve always been interested in laser hair removal. Who wouldn’t want to not have to worry about shaving all of the time, especially when the hair is dark and grows quickly. As much as I’ve been wanting it, a lot of things have been holding me back from visiting a professional. The price (holy moly it gets hefty if you need a lot of sessions) and is there pain?
Of course, at home treatments are decidedly less expensive, seemingly easy to use and because you can choose the level you can basically choose how much it’ll hurt (or not hurt, as the case may be). The latest home laser removal system on the block is the Silk’n Flash&Go™ Freedom™ Hair Removal System, which I’ve been testing since the middle of May.
What Sephora says about the Silk’n Flash&Go™ Freedom™ Hair Removal System:
What it is:
An FDA cleared home-use device for obtaining permanent hair removal results. What it does:
Designed for men and women, this easy-to-use Flash&Go Freedom uses highly sophisticated Home Pulsed Light™ technology to safely and effectively provide you with proven long-term hair removal results. Top dermatologists and plastic surgeons who tested Flash&Go Freedom concluded it could be used safely, easily, and effectively in a typical home environment. The HPL technology in the device has been designed to capture all the clinical benefits of pulsed light for hair removal at home.A unique skin color sensor is built into the Flash&Go Freedom to measure the treated skin complexion at the beginning of each session and occasionally during the session, ensuring that pulses will only be emitted on suitable skintones. As with professional laser treatments, a series of treatments are required to clear an area of unwanted hair—the result is lasting silky-smooth skin.

This system comes complete with the laser and also a refill cartridge. To test, I did the bottom half of my legs. On the first treatment I did level one (which they recommend). The treatment didn’t hurt but every once in awhile I could feel heat and a stab of current. Not unpleasant, just a random feeling. Actually a little addicting. The next day – Hair was growing back normally as it does every time I shave. No side effects, though.
Two weeks later I did my second treatment and used level two. It wasn’t painful by any means but a few zaps could definitely be felt. Regardless I think I’ll be okay with Level three next time. The next day I noticed my legs were still smooth (normally there would be a bit of regrowth by now).
Two more weeks later I did my third treatment and used level three. This one had a bit more of a “snapping rubber band” sensation but was absolutely bearable. I love that the hair is growing back much more fine and in some patches not even at all! It’s so much easier to shave my legs and I’m excited to work on the rest of my bod! During this treatment the first light appliance died off, so I had to put the other one on. Replacement cartridges are $40.00 so I’m going to order at least one so it’s on hand for when this one dies. I don’t want to be in the middle of a treatment and be out of luck.
The fourth treatment I used level four and it wasn’t any more painful than level three. My fifth treatment I went for the top level, which is five, and in some spots it did hurt (no where near as painful as waxing). I don’t know what brings about pain in some spots over others, but it’s totally do-able (and I’m a huge pain baby). I shaved one week ago and still don’t have to reshave my legs. And I’m a girl that had to shave my legs daily before.
The Silk’n Flash & Go is seriously a dream come true for me. I have already reordered cartridges and am continuing to go to work on the rest of my body. It’s affordable and extremely effective as well as being easy to use. I’d recommend this a million times over to everyone.
The one thing I would improve on this device is some sort of warning beep or flash for when the cartridge is almost done. Like 100 pulses left or something. So you know to reorder and aren’t shocked when the Silk’n just stops working.
How do you remove unwanted hair? Have you ever wanted to try a laser hair removal system?
The Silk’n Flash&Go™ Freedom™ Hair Removal System retails for $300.00 (refills are $40.00) and is available at Sephora and on silkn.com (where currently there is a back to school 20% off site wide special going on, use code SCHOOL).
I purchased the Silk’n Flash&Go Freedom System a year ago and I have NOT had great results as I expected:( I use it on my chin. The hair is a mixture of medium brown and light red. It seems like you have to have really dark hair in order for it to be effective:(
Yes, it’s definitely more effective with lighter skin with dark hair. It’s probably only getting to the medium brown on you. Hopefully soon there will be an option for those with darker skin and/or lighter hair coloring!
